Tudor Black Bay Black 79220N
Tudor Black Bay Black 79220N
Tudor Black Bay Black with reference 79220N. The Black Bay is built on Tudor’s heritage and has a distinctive and iconic design. This Black Bay is the earlier version of the Black Bay and is therefore powered by a reliable ETA 2824 movement which has been modified by Tudor – removing the date function and changing the anti-shock mechanism. It has a big crown with no crown guards that is engraved with the iconic Tudor rose. The watch has a unidirectional bezel which allows you to measure minutes. The Tudor Black Bay 79220 is built on Tudor’s historic Submariner models from the 50s, and thus features many important design elements that pay tribute to Tudor’s heritage, such as the matte dial, the gilt text, the big crown, the crown logo, aluminum bezel, and more.
The Tudor 79220N is now discontinued in favor for the 79230N which now features an in-house movement. It’s easy to believe that therefore, the demand for the ETA version is low, but the fact is that it is actually the opposite. In fact, many people consider the 79230N as too thick, due to the new in-house movement. Furthermore, the new Black Bay has abandoned things such as the iconic Tudor rose on the dial.
But among the red, the blue, and the black Black Bay watches from the 79220 range, the black is unarguably the most sought after. The black ETA version was only manufactured for six months before being replaced by the new 79230N, and therefore, the number of black Black Bays on the market is limited and have become more sought-after by collectors. This has started to affect the price of these watches quite a bit since the demand for them is increasing, but the number available on the market is limited. This makes the 79220N the most collectible piece among the Black Bay watches, and thus also the watch that is most likely to increase in value.
