The Rolex Submariner 14060 “Swiss only” represents a transition in Rolex’s production and the shift from an era to a new one. This is why the “Swiss only” is considered a transitional model. There are many things that make the Rolex Submariner 14060 Swiss Only such a special timepiece. First, there is the fact that the watch is rather limited considering its limited production time. The Submariner Swiss only was only in production between the years of 1998 and 1999. With watches, it is the details that make the difference, and the small but important detail with the Swiss only 14060 is where it got its name it from – the bottom of the dial at 6 o’clock. If you look closely at the printing, you will find the text “Swiss”. The previous model featured the print “Swiss – T < 25” which means that the luminous material used was tritium.

However, in 1998, the use of tritium was discontinued due to it losing its glow over time, but also due to the fact that it aged and got patina, which Rolex tries to prevent in every way possible. The “Swiss only” Submariner 14060 instead uses Luminova as the luminous material. But in 1999, Rolex introduced Superluminova for the 14060, and thus put an end to the Swiss only production, when Rolex instead started writing “Swiss Made” at the bottom of the dial.
