The Rolex Explorer II reference 216570 is built upon the smaller-cased 16570 which was the predecessor. This watch features an instantly-recognizable orange GMT hand as well as contrasting orange “Explorer II” lettering on the dial. It is built upon its predecessor 16570, which in turn was built on the iconic “Steve McQueen” Explorer II reference 1655. The modern Explorer II 216570 features an orange GMT hand, just like the initial 1655, and when comparing the two models, they are very similar, which contributes to making the watch more appealing due to its historic heritage.

The Rolex Explorer II is developed with a durable movement, made to withstand shocks and high or low temperatures. It’s a rugged watch made for the explorer. The watch is powered by an in-house caliber 3138 movement developed and manufactured by Rolex.

The case and bracelet are made in Rolex’s unique 904L Oystersteel which is made in Rolex’s own foundry.

The Rolex Explorer is certainly not the most popular sports Rolex watch there is, which is a shame because it features everything you may ask for in a sports Rolex. On the contrary, this is great news because it means that you can get it at quite a good price on the secondhand market, below retail price.
