Seiko has a large number of dive watches in its collection. The SRP605K2 is a robust and bulky timepiece that has a great presence on the wrist. With that said, it is suitable for people who have large wrists or a preference for large watches. In terms of design, is unique and has its own style.

In this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Seiko SRP605K2.

Seiko SRP605K2 Case

The first impression you will get of the SRP605K2 is that its case is bulky, and that is exactly right. The watch has a stainless steel case with a diameter of 44m. It has a lug width of 22mm and a case thickness of 13mm.

What particularly stands out about this case is the thickness of the lugs and their design. First, they have a regular lug shape and design, but this is then extended through a new set of lugs (at least by the looks of it), which results in much thicker lugs. On the right side of the case, these extend to become the crown guards that protect the crown. The crown is knurled which provides a good grip. The crown is a push/pull and not a screw-down.

The lugs are aggressively angled which contributes to its very sporty presence. The top of the lugs have a satin-brush finish, whereas the sides of the case are mirror polished.

The watch offers a water resistance of 330 feet/100 meters/10ATM. This is enough for swimming, snorkeling, etc, but not completely safe for deep diving. A screw-down crown, amongst other things, would obviously have helped this watch get an even better and more reliable water resistance.

Sitting on top of the watch is Seiko’s proprietary Hardlex crystal. This is not as tough as sapphire crystal, but is still more durable than regular mineral glass. At this price point, the Hardlex crystal is more than we can ask for.

Being a dive watch, it of course has a unidirectional rotating bezel. The design of this bezel is not like your ordinary dive watch, which has a bezel, and then a bezel insert. The bezel of this watch is a solid piece of metal. This makes the bezel extremely robust and bulky. The bezel sits quite tall on the case which also allows for good grip and easy operation. It has knurling on the sides for easy grip.

The bezel has large minute markers printed in white which makes legibility exceptional.

The dial of the watch matches the color of the bezel, which is a dark blue color. The dial is slightly matte. However, due to the nature of the dial, it changes color depending on how the light hits it. In some environments, it can look dark blue, but in others, it can look almost turquoise.

On the outer part of the dial, the watch has a chapter ring on which the seconds markers are printed in white.

Because of the large bezel and the chapter ring, the actual dial is perceived as rather small (which it is, in proportion to the case and bezel).

Since it is a dive watch, large hour markers for legibility is crucial, and the SRP605K2 definitely lives up. To this. The luminous markers have a gold background which is slightly larger than the lume plot itself. This makes the markers instantly distinguishable. To match the hour markers, the hands are made in gold color as well. The hour hand is short and designed as a broad arrow. The minute hand is shaped like a sword with a rich amount of Lumibrite applied to it. Lastly, the seconds hand is designed as an arrow.

The gold theme against the blue gives the dial a warmth and a slightly vintage feel and look. At 3 o’clock, the watch has the ”Seiko 5 iconic” Day and date window. The window has a gold metal frame and a black background with white printing.

The Seiko SRP605K2 is equipped with the Seiko Caliber 4R36. This is an automatic mechanical in-house movement developed by Seiko.

If you turn the watch around, you will be able to see the automatic movement beating inside. The movement is not decorated and therefore looks very industrialized. But this doesn’t bother me at all since it goes very well together with the tool-like look and gives the impression that it is sturdy and robust. Which, of course, it is.

The 4R36 is frequently called a workhorse movement. It will continue to tick year after year without the need for a service. 

The movement operates with a frequency of 21,600 BPH and has a power reserve of 40 hours.

The watch is presented on a 22mm blue rubber strap with a tang buckle.

The rubber strap goes very well with the design of the watch. Rubber straps tend to give a marine feel and look great on dive watches, so Seiko’s decision to use it for this watch was good. This is especially considering the fact that at this price point, the metal bracelets tend to feel low quality and rattly. This naturally has a great impact on our overall impression of the watch. So by fitting this on a rubber strap, Seiko can avoid this.
