Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 T1204071704100 Review & Guide
Tissot has a long and rich heritage, originally founded in 1853 in Le Locle, Switzerland. Tissot has a long history of manufacturing hogs-quality wristwatches according to Swiss watchmaking tradition.
At the same time, Tissot watches are at their price point considered to offer great value for money. You get a Swiss-made watch that has high quality, a durable and long-lasting movement, and a nice finish, at a reasonable price.
Tissot has a large selection of models of watches in its collection to suit any taste and preference -from dress watches to sports watches. But to meet the popularity of dive watches which has only become greater in recent times, Tissot has developed the Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 reference T1204071704100.
This is the watch we are going to look closer at in this article.
Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 T1204071704100 Review
The name of this watch is definitely a mouth full. The Seastar 1000 name refers to the actual collection of this watch, which consists of sporty and durable dive watches that are built to last and with great durability.
Tissot describes the Seastar 1000 as:
”the ultimate watersport watch, with its high water-resistance up to a pressure of 30 bar (300 m/1000 ft), screw-down crown and caseback as well as its unidirectional ceramic bezel.”.
The Powermatic 80 name simply comes from the fact that this movement uses Tissot’s own ”Powermatic 80” automatic movement.
With that said, the T1204071704100 is a sporty and durable dive watch made to last. It is equipped with an automatic movement and has a clean and refined design. It stays true to the designs of classic dive watches, but incorporates modern technology and build quality, and surprisingly works exceptionally well for every day. In this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Seastar 100 Powermatic 80 T1204071704100.
Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 T1204071704100 case
The T1204071704100 is presented in a 316Lstainless steel case with a diameter of 43mm and a thickness of 12.7mm. As we expect a dive watch to be, it is relatively big and has a sporty presence on the wrist. At the same time, it is not huge, part of which can be attributed to the sleek lug design.
Unlike many other watches, the lugs do not curve out from the case, but instead more or less extend from the case directly as they are almost completely straight. This ensures all focus is kept on the dial. The case has a lug-to-lug measurement of 49.5mm.
The crown at 3 o’clock sits protected between crown guards. The crown sits almost completely protected by these. To ensure water resistance, the crown is of course a screw-down.
Speaking of water resistance, a dive watch needs a good such, and this is an area where Tissot has not compromised. The Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 has a water resistance of 30 bar (300 m / 1000 ft) which means it can handle practically any type of water activity that you subject it to.
As a dive watch should, it has a unidirectional rotating bezel with 60-graduation markings. The bezel has a black ceramic inlay.
It’s nice to see a ceramic bezel insert on this watch as it enhances the impression of quality, takes it up a notch to compete with even more expensive timepieces, as well as, of course, has the practical benefit of not scratching as easily as aluminum inserts. It also helps make the watch look more modern since, after, all, this is a modern timepiece and a new model from Tissot. Not a reissue or vintage-inspired timepiece.
At 12 o’clock, the bezel has a luminous dot which allows you to read the bezel even in low-lit conditions. For better grip, the bezel has ratches, and this stands out just slightly from the case.
If you turn the watch around, you’ll see that the watch is equipped with a see-through case back. This is a nice detail as it allows you to see the movement inside. This perhaps doesn’t come as a surprise seeing the fact that Tissot is very proud of the Powermatic 80 movement. It took a long time to develop and features lots of new technology that improves its performance. But more on this later.
Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 T1204071704100 dial
The watch is presented with a blue gradient dial which shifts from a clear blue color in the center, which transitions into a dark blue, almost black color on the outer part. The dial has a lovely brushed/matte finish, making the dial extremely vibrant. The dial really is a nice feature of this watch, and you cannot go wrong with the color blue in a dive watch. Right at the edge of the chapter ring around the dial, Tissot has added applied hour markers with polished metal frames around them. They also have applied luminescent material on them.
Interestingly enough, the watch has a round date window positioned above the 6 o’clock marker. It blends in very well into the dial, but it’s still there which helps make it more practical. After all, most people will were this watch as a daily driver rather than below the surface.
The watch has broad hands with polished metal frames and generous amounts of luminescent material. These ensure exceptional legibility, which is of ouches crucial in a dive watch.
Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 T1204071704100 movement
As the name reveals, the T1204071704100 is equipped with the Tissot caliber Powermatic 80, more specifically the 80.111.
The name comes from the fact that it offers a power reserve of an impressive 80 hours. The movement has 23 jewels and has been developed in close partnership with ETA. After all, Tissot is owned by the Swatch Group, which also owns ETA. The movement beats with a frequency of 21600 BPH.
As you can see engraved on the rotor, the movement has a high-tech escapement. What does this mean? Well, the escapement has no regulator. Instead, the rate is set at the factory with a laser, making the manual rate adjustments normally required by a mechanical watch unnecessary. The accuracy of this movement is great, but it is not COSC-certified. Obviously to keep the costs down.
This movement has also been built to be robust and sturdy.
If you look at the see-through case back, you’ll see that the movement has some engravings, but no decoration. After all, in this price range, we can’t expect a Patek Philippe level of finish. In addition, considering the nature of this timepiece, it is reasonable that the movement also looks sporty and robust.
Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 T1204071704100 strap
This watch is presented on a curved-end black rubber strap. You can never go wrong with a rubber strap on a dive watch, and this is why it looks great on the T1204071704100 too. It adds to the sporty nature and is very comfortable to wear.
However, this model is also available on a stainless steel bracelet, if you prefer that.

I purchased a Tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic 80. I believe at the 500 dollar it is truly a steal. It keeps time as well as my Omega Seamaster (James Bond) piece. The in house movement is a truly remarkable remarkable addition. 100% Swiss made. No Chinese crap !!

I recently purchased the Tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic 80 for an everyday wear. Suddenly my Datejust and JLC are spending more time on my dresser than ever before. This is great looking time piece. The price does not reflect the great quality and sporty features of this watch.

I currently own a Seamaster and I had a Submariner for years that I sold earlier this year because the prices have gotten stupid-crazy. I am trying to think of anything that those watches can do that my Seastar can’t. The Omega has never been as accurate as this Seastar, and the Seastar is actually slightly more accurate even than my Rolex was. Some folks have complained that your local watch guy cannot service these watches. However, last time I sent my Rolex in for regular factory maintenance, it cost almost as much as this entire watch costs new. I own a ton of watches, but this one has become my daily wearer.
Interesting! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. The Tissot is indeed a great watch!
