Seiko Prospex Street Series SNE537 Review & Complete Guide

For affordable, sporty, and robust dive watches at affordable prices, Seiko is definitely a brand worth turning to.

Seiko has become an expert in making these types of watches and as a result, it has become a popular choice for those who enjoy them. This has also led to Seiko releasing tons and tons of different models and designs.

One of those is the Seiko Prospex Street Series SNE537.

Already at first glance, it becomes evident that the design of the SNE537 is rather different and stands out from the crowd. But this is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, according to many people, it is their biggest strength. Because not everyone wants a standard dive watch with a classic design that looks like the Rolex Submariner. These types of watches look great and are true classics, but this watch is unique and different which is very refreshing in a world of classic dive watches.

The SNE537 is sporty and robust, but most importantly has a design that stands out from the crowd. With that said, it is certainly not a watch for everyone, but at the same time, there are a lot of people who love it. And in addition, when looking at this watch’s specifications in detail, it is evident that it offers great value for money.

Without further ado, let’s review the Seiko Prospex Street Series SNE537.

Seiko Prospex Street Series SNE537 case

The watch is designed like a Seiko Tuna watch, which means it has a round case shape with a shroud that keeps the case protected and gives it a distinct look. The Tuna name is said to derive from the fact that its case shape reminds of a tuna can.

The case has a diameter of 47mm and a thickness of 13mm. But whilst that may seem big on paper, it’s well-known that the Tunas from Seiko wear a lot smaller than what their dimensions on paper may suggest. This has to do with the fact that the lugs are extremely short and barely extend further than what the case does. Because of this, you likely won’t have the issue of the lugs pointing out from the sides of the wrist, which is generally the most common reason a watch is seen as too big on the wrist.

As mentioned, the case has a shroud which does make the case slightly more bulky and sporty, but psst importantly, it gives it its distinct look. The shroud has a slightly different texture to it compared to the case and is slightly matte. This is because it is made of plastic. To enable rotation of the bezel, the should have cutouts in two places. You’ll also find black screws on the side of the case which are there to hold the shroud in place.

Being a dive watch, it also has a unidirectional rotating bezel. On the SNE537, the bezel is made of steel and has recessed markers for the minutes. The first 15 minutes are black whilst the rest of the bezel is grey. The bezel also has a circular brushed finish. At 12 o’clock, we also have a luminous pip for legibility.

The crown is positioned at 4 o’clock which is a signature design feature of many Seiko watches. This has the benefit of avoiding the crown from digging into the wrist and improving comfort. The crown is not screw-down, but despite this, the watch still offers a water resistance of 200m/660 feet. As the name suggests, this is also a Prospex watch. This simply means that it is built according to the needs and wants of professionals. In other words, it is built to last.

Seiko SNE537 dial

Apart from the case, the dial design is also different and stands out from the crowd.

The dial has grey color with a rich texture. It is matte and therefore adds to the sportiness but also prevents glare. If you are familiar with Seiko Tuna watches, the markers and hands will feel very familiar. The markers are big and have generous amounts of Lumibrite applied to them. The same goes for the arrow-tip hour hand and sword-shaped minutes hand. With that said, legibility is certainly not an issue with this watch.

As an additional detail, the outer edge of the dial has an angled chapter ring on which the seconds markers are printed.

Seiko SNE537 movement

This is a quartz watch powered by the solar Caliber V157. Some people may be scared away by the fact that it does not have a mechanical movement, but there is a good reason for this, and that is because this watch is powered by Seiko’s Solar technology.

What does this mean?

It means that through the dial, Seiko takes sunlight and ambient light and converts it into energy for the movement with the help of solar panels which are placed behind the dial. The benefit of this is that this watch does not need any battery replacements. The movement offers a power reserve of 10 months.

Then, of course, we have the benefit of quartz being affordable to service and maintain, but also to be far more accurate than mechanical movements. Quartz movements are also rather light.

Strap

The watch is presented on a grey textured silicone strap which matches the colors of the watch perfectly. The silicone strap adds to the dive-watch feel of it and of course, can also be worn on top of a wetsuit.

The strap gives a nice impression of quality and overall just looks great on this watch.

Conclusion

All in all, there is a lot of positive things to say about the Seiko Prospex Street Series SNE537.  To conclude it all, we can say that it is a watch that offers great value for money. This is a watch that is built to last and has impressive build quality. It feels rugged and durable, and the finishing of the dial as well as the case is good too.

With a 200m water resistance and a Prospex designation, it will be able to handle any hardship and rough conditions you put it through. At the same time, it is light and comfortable on the wrist. The solar technology is also practical as you won’t have to change the battery, plus you have the benefit of the accuracy of quartz.

This watch has a unique and sporty design which makes it a great casual everyday watch to wear on casual occasions or when sporting. It’s perfect for those who enjoy dive watches but are bored with the classic Submariner-style watches and want something completely different.
