Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B Review & Complete Guide
Over the years, Casio has released more versions of the G-Shock than we can count. And this is for a good reason. The G-Shock collection has become one of the most well-known and popular collections of timepieces in the world.
Because of its huge popularity, the collection has continued to grow to include more timepieces for all kinds of purposes and occasions, and not only with the classic G-Shock design we are used to.
The Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B is an example of one such timepiece. This is an ”extra everything” G-Shock which, whilst embracing all of the things that make the G-Shock great, spicing it up with an even sportier and more aggressive design, and packing it with lots of new and interesting functions.
The Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B is not a watch for everyone, in particular considering its sporty and bulky design, but also because it may be ”too much” for some people.
But if you are looking for a unique, sporty, and tool-like G-shock that stands out from the crowd and is sure to catch your eyes, this is definitely a watch you should consider getting.
Without further ado, let’s review the Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B and look at what it has to offer in detail.
Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B case
The watch features a case that has a diameter of 44.9mm, a lug-to-lug of 55.8mm, and a thickness of 17mm. It weighs in at 99 grams. It is made in black resin, like most G-Shocks out there which is a signature design trait, but it also helps make the watch more robust, resistant to shocks, and to some extent anti-magnetic.
The resin case will also continue to look good for a long time to come and not acquire scratches in the same way as a steel case will.
Now, there’s no denying that the Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B is big, like seriously bulky watch. With that said, not everyone will be able to pull it off.
In order to successfully pull it off, you need to have relatively large wrists, but at the same time, Casio has executed it well so that it hugs the wrist nicely and sits rather comfortably. This is partly due to the lug design and the way the strap integrates into the case.
As its design reveals, it is a seriously tough watch, and this is also what we have come to expect from all G-Shock watches. It will handle shocks, bangs, and harsh conditions that you subject it to.
A sporty watch of course needs good water resistance, and this watch resists 200m/660 feet which is enough to handle virtually any water activity and water sport that you may wear it for.
The case is designed in a way that it absorbs shocks which helps make it more resistant. Some of them are visible, such as the ”bumpers” around the case, but they are also internal in order to give maximum protection to the movement. The result is of course a very technical look.
What particularly stands out about this case is of course its bezel. This watch has a steel anodized blue bezel with engraved numerals from 1 to 10 both on the upper side and the lower side. The numbers on the bezel are used together with the barometer in order to show a change in barometric pressure. Apart from being functional, the bezel looks great and contrasts the all-black look really well. It also adds to the sporty nature of this timepiece. The bezel is designed to be slightly angled which looks great as well.
The watch features a smart access crown which means you make a half-turn to unlock the crown.
On top of the case is a mineral glass. This isn’t as tough as sapphire crystal, but it won’t shatter as much as sapphire either.
The crown protrudes quite a bit from the right side of the case, and on each side, it has pushers. These increase the bulky feel of the case too.
G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B dial and functions
This watch has a dial that very evidently has a lot going on. It is a quartz timepiece but also displays analog time with hour, minutes, and seconds hands.
Around the outer part of the dial, it has lots of different cities indicated with abbreviations. This is of course used for the world timer so that you are able to keep track of the time in different timezones.
Thanks to its many elements, the dial is very interesting and has great depth. Above 6 o’clock, it has a digital LCD screen. This screen presents lots of valuable information such as the day and date. The hour markers are applied and are filled with luminous material and have an anodized blue metal frame that matches the bezel of the watch really well.
The hour hand is short and has an arrow tip. The minutes hand is sword-shaped, and the second hand is painted red. On the dial, it also has a tide graph and barometer sub-dial. This sub-dial is used to track the tide as well as understand barometric pressure changes.
For improved legibility, the watch is equipped with a backlight which is activated by using the top right button.
With all of this said, there’s no denying that it is a busy dial that has a lot going on, but at the same time, they are functions that can be truly useful.
Movement
The watch is powered by the Module 5371. This is a quartz movement that uses solar technology to charge it. Of course, using a quartz movement rather than a quartz movement in this type of timepiece is a good choice considering it is much more accurate but also much more durable. In addition, quartz is necessary in order to power the different functions of this watch, including the digital screen.
The movement is highly resistant to shocks and magnetism which is absolutely crucial in this type of watch. The movement incorporates tons of different functions so really, it is a rather complicated quartz movement.
Furthermore, to help this movement with accuracy, it syncs daily with the atomic clock to ensure it always keeps perfect accuracy.
Strap
In traditional G-Shock fashion, it has an integrated black resin strap.
This strap is a given choice for this watch as it is durable, long-lasting, and resistant to both scratches and dirt. The strap is rather comfortable to wear and to lock it in place, it has a tang buckle.
The strap integrates well into the case and makes for a seamless design.

Conclusion
All in all, the Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster GWN-1000B is a timepiece out of the ordinary. It stays true to what a G-Shock is meant to be – sporty, durable, robust, and packed with functions, but it also puts a twist to the classic G-Shock we perhaps most think about, both in terms of design but also in terms of functions.
This watch is made for maritime use, hence its Gulfmaster name, and it is built to help you be better prepared for any challenges you may face when out at sea, or close by it.
This watch offers lots of different functions that may come in handy but also functions that you may not use. But it is just a seriously cool watch.
It has a stylish and cool design, but naturally, its size means that it is not for everyone. All in all, if you are looking for a G-Shock but want something unique and more special, with an even more sporty build quality and design, this is definitely a watch that you cannot go wrong with.
