Casio G-Shock DW-5600HR Review & Complete Guide

The Casio G-Shock collection is undoubtedly one of the toughest and most robust watch collections on the market. Over the decades, the G-Shock has established itself to an almost iconic status, which has made it extremely popular all around the world.

The G-Shock watches are known for being robust, durable, and able to handle virtually any harsh conditions you subject them to. The G-Shock watches can instantly be recognized thanks to their sporty and aggressive design. Because of this, they are not for everyone, but still, because of their huge popularity, they have come to a point where they are iconic and appreciated for their uniqueness.

With that said, over the decades, Casio has introduced a large number of different G-Shock models to cater to different people’s needs and wants. They are available as the most basic variants, and they are available as highly advanced and complicated watches packed with tons and tons of different functions and features.

In this article, we are looking closer at an entry-level version of the Casio G-Shock. This watch is equipped with the standard features of G-shocks, but nothing more and nothing less. With that said, it is a watch that isn’t over the top, and that, despite its sporty look is surprisingly versatile. It also happens to be an extremely popular model as well.

Casio G-Shock DW-5600HR Review

There are all kinds of different watches on the market. Dress watches, dive watches, pilot’s watches, and more. But every watch collector needs a beater in their collection, and this is a purpose that the G-Shock watches do very well. With that said, every watch collector should have at least one G-Shock in their collection to wear for the times when you will subject it to harsh and rough conditions.

But with so many G-Shocks out there, which should you choose?

If you want a simple, clean, and classic G-Shock timepiece that isn’t over the top, then the DW-5600HR is a great alternative. This watch is also known as the “Gorillaz Remix” due to the watch’s promotion association with them. Without further ado, let’s dig in and look at what this watch has to offer.

Case

Like so many of the Casio G-Shock watches, this timepiece is equipped with a black resin case. The benefit of the resin is of course that it increases its durability, and scratch resistance, and makes it more shock-proof.

The case measures 42.8mm in diameter, has a length of 48.9mm, and a thickness of 13.4mm. And whilst that may seem relatively big, keep in mind that it is not a classic round design, meaning it wears differently. And the general view of this watch is that it wears really well. The watch has a rectangular case shape with an integrated lug design which allows the strap to seamlessly integrate into the case.

Just like the case, the strap is made of resin. A nice touch to this strap is that it has a red lining which creates a nice contrast and is discreetly visible from the sides whilst on the wrist.

Whilst the case is made of resin, it does feel rather solid and qualitative. And obviously, the use of resin serves a purpose. Naturally, the watch is also rather light, and this contributes to its neat feel on the wrist. The strap is also rather comfortable on the wrist and it is locked in using a steel buckle. The resin strap is just as durable and resistant to water and other liquids, just like the case.

The case back is made of stamped steel, and this is the only part of the case that is made of steel too.

On the sides of the case, we have different push buttons – two on each side. On top of the face, there is text next to each button that indicates what each of the buttons does. One downside is that the pushers are recessed, which can therefore make it difficult to access them. But obviously, the recession serves the purpose of keeping them protected and preventing accidental pushes, so perhaps we can overlook this.

The watch offers a water resistance of 200m/660 feet which is actually really great for a watch of this type. 200M is dive watch performance, so you can go swimming and diving with this watch without any concerns.

The watch is also built to handle extreme temperatures, up to -10 Celsius. As mentioned, this watch is built to handle any harsh conditions you subject it to.

Lastly, on top of the case, we have a mineral glass. This is obviously not as tough as sapphire, but at this price point, we wouldn’t expect it, either.

Dial/screen

The actual dial of the watch consists of one big screen which displays the different information that the watch incorporates.

The screen uses a negative display and is black, which blends in nicely together with the all-black look. The legibility is still quite good, and for low-lit conditions, you even have an LED backlight that illuminates the display in blue, meaning you can read the time even in complete darkness.

Functions & movement

The watch is powered by the Casio Module 3229 which is the module that enables all of the different functions. This means that it is a quartz movement and powered by a standard lithium battery. The battery life is specified to be about 2 years. It is also quite accurate at +-15 seconds per month.

It offers lots of different functions that may come in handy in everyday life. It has a time, date, and month display, which are the most important in a watch. But in addition to this, it also has an alarm, countdown timer, and stopwatch. It also lets you alter between 12 & 24-hour time display.

Of course, there are G-Shocks that incorporate a ton of additional functions and features such as barometer, tide data, and more, but if you just want a simple G-Shock with the most important information, this will work really great.

Conclusion

All in all, it’s easy to see why the Gorillaz Remix G-Shock DW-5600HR is so immensely popular. It is a watch with a true G-Shock DNA, but it has been executed and designed in such a way that it works much better for everyday wear. It is sleeker, more elegant, more comfortable, and less clumsy.

Whilst it lacks some of the functions that you can find in Casio’s more advanced watches, the functions are more than enough for most people who will wear it as an everyday watch.

It is well-built, offered at a great price, and actually looks rather elegant for a G-Shock. At this price, you really cannot go wrong with it.
