Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V Review
Sometimes, you just need a durable and extremely robust timepiece. If you’re going out on adventures that can involve hard conditions, it may not be ideal to wear a luxury watch.
Casio’s answer to this need is the G-Shock DW-5600E-1V. This watch not only looks robust, but it also is insanely so. This watch has proven to be extremely tough and able to last for many years to come, despite countless shocks, dents, and scratches. With this watch, the term ”tool watch” is all of a sudden completely rewritten.
As it also happens, the DW-5600E-1V is one of the most popular watches from Casio. And it’s easy to see why. It does exactly what it is supposed to do.
In this article, we are going to look closer at and review the Casio DW-5600E-1V.
The DW-5600E-1V is already at first glance a very sporty and cool timepiece. Its all-black look together with its funky digital screen and its now-iconic rectangular shape gives 80s vibes. At the same time, this watch is packed with helpful functions. And the watch not only looks sporty and robust, either. In fact, the watch lives up to what its looks promises. And it does this at a very reasonable price. Or more correctly, a bargain.
Let’s dig into what this watch has to offer, and what makes it so widely popular all around the world.
Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V Review
The Casio G-Shock collection has grown immensely over the years. And equally so has its popularity. Today, the Casio G-Shock watches are appreciated all around the world and enjoyed by millions and millions. But what makes this watch so popular?
Well, first and foremost, the price. But not only the price, more so its price in relation to its quality and what it offers.
The Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V is a seriously tough watch that can handle almost any hardship you put it through. The wearer doesn’t have to worry about scratching or damaging it, and even if it would happen, it’s not the end of the world due to its affordable price. In addition, the watch is of course very practical. It is legible in the dark and packed with useful functions.
Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V case
The watch is presented in a Casio-distinct case in an almost rectangular shape with an integrated bracelet. The case is all black, shock-resistant, and offers a water resistance of 200m which makes it suitable for diving (!). The case is made in resin, so when talking about this watch, we’re not going to talk about finish and details, because that’s not what it’s about.
What we will say, however, is that the case is extremely comfortable to wear, and in addition, it is presented on a black resin strap which is very comfortable (and durable), too. Due to its extremely lightweight, you will, at times, likely forget that you are wearing it. This is a combination that you don’t hear too often, right? A durable and robust watch that you barely feel on the wrist?
Due to the case shape, it can be rather difficult with the measurements as it depends on how you measure it, but according to specifications, it is 42.8mm wide and 13.4mm thick, but note that you will read different numbers depending on where you look. The lug-to-lug is more than 50mm.
To keep the screen protected, the watch has a mineral crystal.
Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V ”dial”
Since this is a digital watch, it of course has a digital display. This means it technically doesn’t have a dial but rather a screen.
With all of the numbers presented on the screen, it can be difficult to know what is what, but you’ll soon figure it out. The case of the watch has four push-buttons – two on each side. If you don’t know what each of these does, don’t worry. Casio solved this by writing the function of each pusher on the screen, right next to the pusher. One complaint this watch has received from some people is that the buttons are quite small which can make it a bit tricky to operate. Fortunately, you generally don’t have to use the buttons too often, and it doesn’t seem to be a huge issue for most people.
The watch is equipped with a ton of helpful features that help make it more practical. This includes a stopwatch (1/100th-second), countdown timer, alarms, hourly time signal, auto calendar, and 12 – and 24-hour formats.
The watch is powered by a quartz digital movement that offers an accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month. This is actually rather quite good. And in addition, the movement is of course extremely durable and can handle knocks, bangs, and shocks.
To help with legibility, in particular in the dark, the Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V has a green backlight for the LCD display which is activated by the pusher on the top right side.
In terms of design, the Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V is a fun and retro watch, that very evidently, is still extremely popular and enjoyed today. We can’t speak of its design, dial, finish, etc. in the same way as we do with a luxury mechanical watch. The watch still looks quite cool, but the number one most important thing is practicality and function, unlike with luxury watches where, to a large extent, shape and form are prioritized to a very high degree.

Conclusion
The Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V is an extremely tough, durable, and reliable retro-inspired timepiece.
The watch is appreciated by millions of people around the world, and this has to do with the fact that it is an all-around timepiece that is packed with functions, yet at the same time extremely durable, practical, and most importantly affordable. At a price of around 40 USD, this watch really doesn’t need much second thought before buying it.
This watch will work as a trusted companion by your side that will stand up to all kinds of hardships you subject it to. Some people have this as their everyday watch, and others use it when sporting or doing things that may put the watch at risk of damage where they don’t want to wear a regular timepiece.
What more can we say? If you want a robust timepiece that is cheap and that you don’t have to worry about at all, the Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1V is definitely one of the best options there is.
