Casio G-Shock GW9200 case
The watch is presented with a black rubber (resin) case like most G-Shocks on the market. The resin case means that it takes a lot to damage and scratch it – unlike a steel case, which keeps it looking great for a long time to come but also protects the internals by absorbing shocks and bangs better.
In its appearance, it is large, bulky, and looks very technical. Apart from all the usual protective elements, the case has a sensor on its left side and an ALTI button on its right side. On the ”bezel” of the watch, you have text explaining what the different buttons on the sides of the case do.
The watch has a water resistance of 20BAR/200M/660 feet. This means you can go swimming, showing, and all other types of activities you may subject it to. Remember, this is a really tough watch.
The first impression of this watch may be that it is huge, but surprisingly enough, it doesn’t wear as big as you may think. Whilst G-Shocks are of course big watches, it doesn’t stand out too much from the regular collection.
The case has six buttons divided between the sides. Most G-Shocks have five buttons, but the additional sixth on this watch is the ”ALTI”.
The red button on the side of the case activates the ALTI function. This sensor measures barometric pressure. By pressing the ALTI button, the watch toggles each alarm on or off.
The backside of the watch has a plastic surrounding which offers further protection. This plastic piece is removed in order to access the back and the battery.
The watch uses a mineral crystal glass which is ok as it doesn’t shatter the same way sapphire crystal does, but it is at the same time not as scratch-resistant.
Casio G-Shock dial/screen
The dial on this watch is obviously presented in the form of an LCD screen. The screen sits somewhat recessed from the resin case which helps keep it protected. For improved legibility, it has a backlight which is activated by pressing the “G” button. You can also activate the backlight so it turns on when you pull up your wrist to look at it.
As you can see, the screen, or dial, is divided into different sections, making it easy to distinguish each of the functions on the watch.
As discussed, the watch is packed with functions.
First off, at the bottom of the display, you find a time indicator. This part is the biggest since, after all, this is the most important part. With that said, the legibility of this watch is rather good. Moving upwards on the screen, which is the middle part, it has a year, month, and date indicator.
At the top of the screen, we have the day of the week indicator. On the top left part of the screen, there is a red circle. This display shows the barometric trend in the last 24 hours. Each dot is presented in 2-hour intervals. This gives you valuable information about the weather conditions so you can prepare yourself for better or worse weather. This is a function that is extremely important when you are out in the field.
This watch is also equipped with solar panels which generate energy for the battery, which essentially means that the need for replacing the battery on this watch is removed. The solar panels are discreetly integrated around the screen. In addition to this, you have a ”power indicator” indicating L, M, and H. This stands for Low, Medium, and High battery levels. To increase its energy efficiency, it has the ability to turn off the LCD screen according to your setting after a certain interval.
For accuracy, this watch also has an atomic clock function which enables you to sync the watch for perfect timekeeping at all times. You perform a manual synchronization by pressing and golding the start button which is positioned on the left bottom side.
Unlike most other G-shocks, this watch does not have a compass, which is worth having in mind.
Using the MODE button, you will be able to through the different modes of the watch and access the relevant information that you are looking for.
The watch has a temperature function allowing you to measure the outside temperature, but have in mind that this may not be correct if you are using it when wearing it as heat from the wrist radiates heat.
Furthermore, it has a world timer function that shows the time in different time zones. At the same time, it shows you’re local time for reference.
As mentioned, it can also be used as a stopwatch. This is obviously activated with the START button and also stopped with the same. The reset button is found in the upper right position. The start-stop watch measures up to 24 hours. At the same time, it has a countdown timer which works similarly to the stopwatch. It is set to a maximum of 24 hours and the watch beeps when it has reached 0 seconds.
Another useful function is the fact that this watch has an alarm. One of the four alarms has a snooze feature.
Bracelet
The watch is presented on a classic black resin strap which is integrated into the case like most other G-Shock watches. It has a keeper for inserting the tip of the strap and also a bump at the end preventing it from sliding off. Just like the case, the strap is sporty, durable, and will hold up for a long period to come. It can handle all kinds of harsh conditions including water and dirt, and can of course easily be cleaned.

Conclusion
There are many good reasons why the Casio G-Shock has become wildly popular all around the world. These watches are built to last and are meant to be robust and helpful tools that can last in virtually any condition you subject them to. The G-Shock is today an iconic watch that resembles durability and utmost robustness. The term “tool watch” is often used in the watch world to refer to watches such as the Rolex Submariner, but if we talk about real Toolwatches, the G-Shock is in a completely different league.
If you are looking for a robust and durable watch that is packed with functions, this is definitely not one that you will be disappointed with. Note that there are now new versions and tweaks to this reference, such as GW9400 and GW9300.
