Back in the days, Rolex outsourced the manufacturing of its dials to companies like Beyeler and Jean Singer & Cie which limited their control of the manufacturing process. But today, Rolex makes all of its dials in-house, and they have become really good at it.
Rolex watches are available in a large selection of different colors, designs, and materials. The dial is the face of a watch and therefore extremely important for its appearance.
Whilst silver and black dials tend to be the most common, chocolate dials are also extremely popular. The name chocolate is used to describe a brown dial due to the color’s similarity to chocolate. So if you want a brown dial Rolex watch, you’ll hear most people use the term “chocolate” to describe it.
Together with a chocolate brown dial, rose gold is the material that looks the very best. This is why all of the Rolex watches with chocolate dials are made in either full rose gold or a combination of rose gold and stainless steel.
There are a few exceptions to full steel watches with brown dials, but you’ll never see a yellow gold Rolex watch paired with a brown chocolate dial. The reason is simply that the combination of brown with yellow gold isn’t that good.
