Hamilton Khaki Field h70455533 Review & Complete Guide
Hamilton is a watch brand that is generally regarded very highly amongst watch enthusiasts. Part of the reason for this is that Hamilton ticks many boxes for what makes a brand appealing and watches great.
Hamilton was originally founded in 1892 and thus has a brand history and heritage. In addition, throughout history, the brand has manufactured watches that are built as tools and meant to make a difference for the wearer. It is most famous for its military watches which were actually used in the fields.
The general perception of Hamilton as a brand is that they make durable, robust, and well-performing tool watches. Not only in terms of design, which can be seen when looking at them, but also in performance.
Many of Hamilton’s watches have a clear vintage-inspired tool-like design which is part of the identity that people have come to love about Hamilton. Having said that, the Khaki field collection has become especially popular for these exact reasons.

The Hamilton Khaki Field collection consists of timepieces that, as the name suggests, are built as field watches. What they have in common is that they have a touch of vintage inspiration in their design, and look very tool-like. These watches are not about being elegant dress watches, but rather robust tool watches. Both in terms of design and performance.
Hamilton is the leader in robust and sporty field watches and definitely one that has carved the path for field watches.
The Hamilton Khaki Field h70455533 is one of the watches in the collection, and this one is very popular amongst enthusiasts. Not least because it offers great value for money.
The watch has a superbly high finish for the price (which we have come to expect from Hamilton), and at the same time, its clean design makes it extremely versatile. This is a watch that you can trust to hold up and be your trusted companion. And its rugged look just makes it more appealing having in mind its history.
In this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Hamilton Khaki Field h70455533.
Hamilton Khaki Field h70455533 case
The watch is presented with a stainless steel case with a diameter of 38mm and a thickness of 11mm. What we can say is that the case design is very similar to how you may envision a military watch, and more specifically, vintage Hamilton military watches.
This is an interesting one from Hamilton because although it is built as a robust tool watch, it doesn’t have the modern size standards. Instead, it focuses more on tradition, and in that context, a 38mm is nothing strange. Quite the opposite actually. In fact, 38mm is more or less a standard size for military field watches at the time they were actually used for that.
But having said that, this size is mostly ideal for men with small or medium-sized wrists. Or, simply for anyone who enjoys wearing small watches. (Small watches from a modern perspective, that is).
The top of the case is satin-brushed in a circular motion apart from the bezel which is polished. The matte effect this gives only adds to the ruggedness of this timepiece. At the same time, the polished bezel provides a nice contrast. The lugs are quite long in proportion to the actual dial size and are slightly curved.
The crown positioned at 3 o’clock is large and has notches for optimal grip.
Sitting on top of the case is a sapphire crystal. This is a great feature as many other watches in this price range use mineral glass. For a vintage touch, the crystal is slightly domed. A ”downside” is, however, that it doesn’t have an anti-reflective coating.
The watch offers a water resistance of 100m/330 feet. This means it is suitable for swimming and diving, but just not scuba or deep diving. A reasonable depth rating for a watch of this type.
If you turn the watch around, you will be able to see the movement inside through the see-through case back. This is always a nice detail, and especially one that watch enthusiasts appreciate.
Hamilton Khaki Field h70455533 dial
The watch has a clean yet nicely finished dial with a focus on legibility, as you would expect. It is black but uses a beautiful circular finish towards the outer dial which both catches the light beautifully and helps make it more interesting. As a military watch should, all markers are printed in white, rather than applied. Around the outer edge of the dial, the seconds markers are printed, with a luminous position at each 5-minute. Right next to this, the minutes are printed with Arabic numerals. Yet inside of this, 24 hours are printed on each 24-minute marker.
The printed Arabic numerals have luminescence which means they glow in the dark, to enable optimal legibility even in the dark.
This is what makes this watch so interesting as it consists of ”layers”, or ”rings” which are very clearly and carefully thought-out. This allows the dial to be busy but at the same time not feel cluttered. Positioned at 3 o’clock, Hamilton has decided to integrate a date window. This can come in handy considering the fact that can come in handy for this type of timepiece, for the most part, will be worn as an everyday timepiece. The background is white and the date is printed in black. Hamilton could have done it with a black background to make it blend in better, but remember that this watch is built with legibility in mind.
The good legibility can also be attributed to the large hands. These are long and wide with pointy tips and a generous amount of Luminova on them. The seconds hand has a red arrow tip, which adds a touch of color to the otherwise monochrome dial.
Hamilton Khaki Field h70455533 movement
The watch is powered by the ETA caliber 2824. Remember that the Swatch group now owns Hamilton, and they also own ETA. The movement has 25 jewels and is built for performance.
A sturdy and robust watch needs a durable movement, and that is exactly what this movement is. It is just what a military field watch needs. Plus, watch enthusiasts will appreciate the long-lasting reliability of this mechanical movement, too.
The movement can be seen through the case back, and on the rotor, it has the Hamilton logo. It’s not really decorated, but again, bear in mind the purpose of this movement.
Hamilton Khaki Field h70455533 strap
The watch is presented on a brown/cognac calf leather strap with a tang buckle in steel. It has beige/white stitching which provides a nice contrast. The strap has a width of 20mm.
The leather strap really adds to the vintage look of this watch and makes me think of old industrialized American times of coal-powered trains, which of course may have something to do with Hamilton’s history. It’s comfortable and relatively high quality, but if you wish to change, you can easily find a wide array of straps to choose from seeing its industry-standard size. Plus, a military watch always looks good on a NATO strap.
