Why do I Need To Clean My Watch?

The reason why you should maintain and clean your watch regularly is the fact that filth and other dust particles that your watch picks up simply add more wear to the watch. Places such as the spring bars at the end-link, but also the bezel are places that easily pick up dust, but are not visible. These parts are commonly exposed to friction, and dust in the way puts more wear on the watch. This might not be a problem short-term, but long term, exposing your watch to more friction than necessary, will tear more on your watch for no reason, which might lead you to replace the whole bracelet, or bezel in this case, earlier than needed.

It is also a health factor, to keep your items clean. Just as you wash your hands during the day, it is rather clever to keep your watch nice and clean, for this specific reason.

How Often Should I Clean My Rolex?

How often you should clean your Rolex depends on many factors. An unwritten rule is to clean your Rolex watch once a week. However, depending on how frequently you use your watch, or if it gets exposed more to filth and dirt, might lead you to clean your watch more often.

Almost all Rolex watches that have the name “Oyster Perpetual” on the dial, meaning not just the model, are water-resistant to 100M. This means, that you without any hesitations can clean your watch under running water, such as in the shower, as long as the watch is water-resistant and does not leak in any water. Rolex authorized dealers to offer to test the water resistance on your watch, and it is good to check this every once in a while to make sure it is resistant to water and dust. Cleaning your Rolex that is not water-resistant might lead the watch to leak in water and damage the movement and dial, which can be quite costly to repair. We, therefore, recommend you as a Rolex owner check whether or not your Rolex is resistant to 100M water resistance, minimum, before you expose it to any water activities.

Cleaning your watch, with just a soft toothbrush, hot water, and soap, will make it look new for many decades to come. It also prevents unnecessary wear to be put on the watch in the meantime.
