The SSB263P1 is a sporty chronograph that has a lot going on. At the same time, it is also clean with its white dial and silver accents.
With its leather strap, it makes for a perfect daily wearer for those who want something more than just a regular timekeeper, and whilst it can be classified as a sports watch, it will work great for everyday wear for all kinds of occasions and outfits.
Without further ado, in this article, we are reviewing the Seiko Chronograph SSB263P1.
Seiko Chronograph SSB263P1 case
The SSB263P1 features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 44mm. The thickness measures 12mm. Being a chronograph, it of course has a tachymeter scale, which in this case is placed on the fixed steel bezel.
With that said, the watch is quite big, making it mostly suitable for men with medium to large wrists.
The whole top of the case has a satin-brushed finish in a circular motion, but the sides are polished which provides a nice contrast. For the price, the case is actually rather nicely finished. Furthermore, the crown at 3 o’clock sits protected between two crown guards which keep the crown protected. On each side of the crown guards, we also have two chronograph pushers with button-tops for easier operation.
The watch has a water resistance of 100m/330 feet which in theory makes it suitable for showing and swimming for shorter periods of time, but since this watch is on a leather strap, and the push-buttons are not screw-down, we would still advise being careful with this watch when it comes to water.
Sitting on top of the case, we have a Hardlex crystal, which is what we can expect from a Seiko watch in this price range.
Seiko Chronograph SSB263P1 dial
Moving on to the dial, this is where we have the most things going on.
As a base, the dial is white but with a silver hue to it. Around the outer edge, there is a large chapter ring which is angled, and on which the split-seconds are printed in black. The applied polished hour markers extend so that they integrate into the chapter ring, which is a nice detail.
The actual dial is perhaps the most interesting part of this watch as it has a honeycomb pattern, helping it become so much more interesting. Positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, there is a date window with a white background that blends in discreetly into the dial. It also has a metal frame around it. For a watch that is likely to be worn as an everyday timepiece, it can of course be quite practical.
The chronograph sub-dials placed at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock display 60 second, 30 minute, and 12 hours. The sub-dials at 12 and 6 have a metal finish to them and a circular pattern.
The hour and minutes hands are skeletonized and made in polished metal with applied Lumibrite to them. They are also sword-shaped. The chronograph hand is blued, which is the only touch of color to this watch, too.
Because the bezel is quite thin, the dial takes up most of the property, making it appear quite big.
When it comes to the dial, it’s evident that Seiko has really paid attention to the details to ensure that it is not perceived as boring, and they have succeeded very well in our opinion.
Seiko Chronograph SSB263P1 movement
The watch is powered by the Seiko quartz caliber 8T67.
Some watch nerds may be scared away by the fact that it is quartz, but there are some benefits of quartz movements, namely accuracy. Quartz watches are far more accurate than mechanical watches, and in addition, they are also substantially more affordable to maintain and service. Generally, you only need to replace the battery once in a while.
Seiko Chronograph SSB263P1 strap
The watch is presented on a brown embossed leather strap. The choice of putting it on a leather strap is a good one in our opinion as it helps make it more casual and suitable for daily wear. It looks more formal with the leather strap which makes it much more versatile.
The strap is ok in terms of quality, but there are certainly better straps out there. But of course, shall you wish to change the strap, you can easily do so.
