Over the years, the Seiko Presage collection has only grown to include more and more watches due to its popularity, and one of those is the Presage reference SRPC99j1.
The Presage collection involves ”Cocktail Time” watches which are inspired by cocktails, and looking at the dial of this one, it is quite evident where it got its inspiration from.

Seiko Presage SRPC99j1 case

This is in our opinion a perfect sweet spot for an elegant watch meant for everyday use. It is not too small that it only works with a suit, but it is also not large enough that it only works as a casual and sporty watch.
Speaking of the size, the case has a diameter of 40mm (specifically 40.5mm), a lug-to-lug measurement of 47mm, and a thickness of 11.8mm. The lugs curve down from the case which allows them to hug the wrist and provide a more snug fit. Thanks to its relatively slim size, it will slide under a cuff without issues. What stands out about the case design, however, is its oversized crown. The benefit of this one, apart from being an interesting design feature, is that it makes it easy to operate the time.
Sitting on top of the case, we have Seiko’s proprietary Hardlex crystal. No surprises here considering its price point, although it would have been nice with a sapphire crystal.
If you turn the watch around, you’ll see that this watch is equipped with a see-through case back, which is always a nice feature. Whilst it by no means is decorated to perfection like a Patek Philippe, it’s fun to see that Seiko has added a detail to this movement, especially for the Presage which is a gold-colored rotor. It obviously goes very well together with the ethos of this timepiece.
In addition, it’s always nice to see and be reminded of the mechanical piece of craftsmanship beating inside.
The watch offers a water resistance of 50 meters/5 Bar, which is not very impressive, but it’s worth keeping in mind that this watch is not meant to be anywhere close to water. And with that said, the water resistance is not really a big deal.

Moving on to the dial, it becomes very evident that this is the highlight of this watch. Whilst the case is simple, clean, and refined, the dial is decorated, has an eye-catching finish, and stands out from the ordinary. At the same time, it is executed in a good way that ensures it is not ”too much”.
As mentioned, this is a cocktail-inspired dial, and the champagne color really gives it away. Specifically the golden champagne cocktail. Seiko has really struck a perfect combination between a champagne-colored dial and gold-colored hour markers and hands. With that said, the watch has pointy and long hour markers applied to the dial which sits very tall. Their beveling allows them to reflect the light beautifully, but also to give the watch an impression of being substantially more expensive than it actually is.
The hands are also gold-colored, beveled, and pointy too, just like the markers. But let’s talk about the actual dial, which has a beautiful machined pattern. Its pattern really makes it stand out from the ordinary, gives it depth, and makes it reflect the light in a beautiful way. You really won’t get tired of this one.
At 3 o’clock, we have a date window with a gold metal frame around it. Seeing that most people likely will wear this as an everyday piece, the date function can be rather convenient.

This watch is powered by the in-house automatic Seiko caliber 4R35. This movement beats with a frequency of 21600 BPH, has 23 jewels, and has a power reserve of 41 hours.
This is a solid and durable movement that has proven to be a workhorse able to continue to tick for years, requiring little to no maintenance. It is tried and true and a great thing for an everyday timepiece we want to be able to simply put on without thinking twice.
The movement has hacking seconds which allows for more accurate time-setting (And which Seiko’s most affordable automatic watches do not have. The movement also has a manual-winding function, which means you don’t have to shake the watch to get it to start if it has stopped. Again, another function that Seiko’s most affordable automatic watches do not have.

The watch is, unsurprisingly, presented on a leather strap. In this case, it is a brown calf leather strap with a push-button triple folding deployment clasp. Leather straps obviously go very well with elegant dress(y) watches and give them more of a classy look.
