The Seiko Solar Chronograph SSC141P1 is, as the name suggests, a solar watch. In the context of Seiko watches, this means that it is a quartz watch equipped with solar technology which generates power for the movement through solar and ambient light which completely removes the need for changing batteries.
As the name also reveals, this is a chronograph. At first glance, you can see that this is a sporty watch with a distinct look. Plus, a blue dial on a sports watch can never go wrong.
In this article, we are reviewing the Seiko Solar Chronograph SSC141P1.
Seiko Solar Chronograph SSC141P1 case
The SSC141P1 is presented with a stainless steel case with a diameter of 43mm. The thickness measures 12mm. As you will notice, it has a very distinct look to it and is mostly satin-finished on the front. The sides, however, are polished as a contrast. The lugs are relatively slim but what stands out about this piece is its aggressively-shaped steel bezel which also happens to be fixed.
The watch offers a water resistance of 100m/330 feet which makes it suitable for showering or even swimming for short periods of time. The crown is a screw-down to ensure better water resistance.
Sitting on top of the case, we have a Hardlex crystal.
The watch is presented on a stainless steel bracelet with a sporty design. It is mostly satin-finished but has two polished striped for contrast. The bracelet has a folding clasp.
Seiko Solar Chronograph SSC141P1 dial
The watch is presented with a beautiful blue dial with a striped pattern. In contrast, Seiko uses silver, for things such as the sub-duals, markers, and printing. The sub-dials are positioned at 12, 9, and 6 o’clock. The dial has applied polished metal hour markers with Lumibrite applied to them for better legibility in the dark. The hands are sword-shaped and also have Lumibrite applied to them.
Positioned at 3 o’clock, we have a date window discreetly integrated into the dial thanks to the black background and silver printing. The window has a silver frame around it.
Around the outer edge of the dial, the watch has an angled chapter ring made in blue on which the tachymeter scale is printed.
As you can see on the sub-dial at 6 o’clock, this watch is an alarm watch too, which is a nice feature.
Overall, the combination of blue and silver elements on the dial, combined with the all-steel look of the case makes for a very sleek appearance.
Seiko Solar Chronograph SSC141P1 movement
As mentioned, this is a solar quartz movement that gets its energy from solar and ambient light. The benefit of this is of course that it removes the need for changing the battery. This is good both for your convenience and the environment.
The most devoted watch enthusiasts may be scared away by the fact that this is a quartz watch, but quartz watches do have their benefits. Most notably, they are more accurate than automatic watches. They are also much more affordable to maintain. For an everyday watch and for someone who just wants a watch that they can rely on to tell the time, this watch does the job perfectly.
