Sizing The Bracelet On Your Rolex Watch
For different reasons, it might be necessary to size the bracelet on your Rolex watch. It could be if you didn’t get it sized when purchasing it at the authorized dealer, getting it from the second-hand market, or perhaps if your wrist has gotten bigger or smaller. There are a few things to consider and keep in mind whilst adjusting the bracelet, and we’ll cover the important parts in this article.
For different reasons, it might be necessary to re-size the length of the bracelet on your Rolex watch. Whilst doing so, there are a few things to consider, such as using the right tools, but also securing the screws which are screwed loose, and then tightened back again.
If you are not being careful when adjusting the screws of the bracelet, they might be damaged and show significant signs of wear, which always is good to avoid.
Heat The Link And Screw
The first thing to do when you are about to attach or remove links from the bracelet is to heat up the bracelet and screw which you are about to unscrew. More often than seldom, screws are fastened in the link with glue directly from the factory, which purpose is to make sure the screw doesn’t unscrew whilst wearing the watch, for decades to come. Glue gets the form of fluid when heated up, and because of this, it is significantly easier to unscrew the screw after.
Choosing The Right Screwdriver
Choosing the right screwdriver is necessary when adjusting any type of bracelet. You might think that any Rolex watch requires the same type of screwdriver, but actually, the required size of the screwdriver is different for the different type of bracelets that Rolex use, such as the Oyster bracelet, Jubilee bracelet, or the Presidential bracelet.
Using a screwdriver that not is a perfect fit for the head of the screw, will damage the head of the screw. A too-small screwdriver will bend the screw, and damage it. A too-large screwdriver will work to tighten the screw, but not all the way in, and won’t make it possible to unscrew the screw, as it wouldn’t fit down the small space which is required to enter before accessing the head of the screw.
By using a perfect-fit screwdriver, the chance of damaging the screw is slim to none, and this is why it is crucial to invest in a perfect-fit screwdriver, as damaging the screw probably will cost you more to replace, than just purchasing the correct screwdriver from the beginning.
Screwing Back The Screw
When screwing back the screw, Rolex recommends applying Loctite with the designation 242. You can read more about Loctite and which to use here. This is because it prevents the screw from unscrewing by wearing the watch, for many decades to come. Just as loosening the screw, it is important to use the perfect fit screwdriver for the task of tightening the screw as well. Make sure that the screw is screwed back tightly, but don’t screw it too tight, as it might damage the screw when applying forced pressure, even if you are using the perfect tool.
