Tissot Chrono XL Classic T1166171104701 case

What you will notice about this watch is its rather unique case design. The watch has a stainless steel case with a diameter of 45mm and a very sleek lug and case design which leaves most of the focus on the dial, as it allows for most of the real estate on the wrist to be taken up by the large dial.

This is predominantly because of the thin polished bezel ring around it that doesn’t take up a lot of space. The lug design is also made to put most of the focus on the dial. But also, when it comes to large watches, the thing that tends to make them wear big is when the lugs stick out from the sides of the wrist. But because the lugs are quite short, it allows for a big dial, without wearing huge.

The lugs are curved from the case and have a polished finish, just like the sides of the case. Because it has no satin-brushed elements, it becomes more elegant and less sporty. This could be a good thing as most people will wear this as a classy and elegant everyday timepiece.

Since this is a chronograph, we find chronograph pushers on the side of the case. The crown is positioned at 3 o’clock and has the chronograph pushers positioned on each side.

Sitting on top of the case is a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal which is really nice to have in a watch of this price, so this is a big plus for Tissot.

The Chrono XL classic offers a water resistance of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft). For an everyday timepiece, this is quite good. It means that you can take it swimming or showering, but it is not suitable for diving.

Despite the watch’s large size, it is quite slim, with a thickness of 11mm. This means it will slide under a cuff without any problems. Perfect for an everyday classy watch.

Tissot T1166171104701 dial

As mentioned, the dial is certainly the highlight of this watch. This is not only because the mesmerizing blue dial stands out, but also because it is big.

The dial is made in a dark blue/marine blue color with a brushed sunburst finish. This means it reflects the light beautifully and changes its look depending on how the light hits it. The blue color really pops and makes it extremely beautiful and vibrant.

Around the edge of the dial, it has a blue chapter ring on which the seconds markers are printed on white. This creates a nice contrast and ”divides” the dial into two sections.

On the dial, Tissot has printed large Arabic numerals from 1 to 12 in white. This helps with legibility. Interestingly enough, it does not have any applied hour markers.

But at 4 o’clock, it has a date window with a white background and the date printed in black. Some argue that the date window harms the symmetry of the watch, and whilst it may, it does help make this watch more practical for everyday wear.

Since it is a chronograph, it also has three sub-dials on the dial. The sub-dials have a lovely circular pattern and are ever so slightly recessed. This creates a nice contrast too but also means they reflect the light in a beautiful way.

The watch is equipped with Tissot’s signature seconds hand with a ”T” design on the opposite end to remind of the Tissot logo. This is made of polished metal. The hour and minutes hands are sword-shaped and their surface consists mostly of applied luminescent material.

Tissot T1166171104701 movement

The T1166171104701 is powered by the Swiss quartz ETA G10.212. The movement has 4 jewels. The theoretical battery lifetime is 38 months

“The ETA G10.212 calibre is a 13¼’’’ quartz chronograph movement displaying hours, minutes, seconds and date. It includes additional functions depending on the model. Chronograph 1/10, ADD, SPLIT, PowerDrive and PreciDrive.”

The most devoted watch nerds may be deterred by the fact that it has a quartz movement, but it does have the benefit of being more accurate than mechanical movements. In addition, those who buy this watch may not be watch geeks, but rather individuals who trust the quality of Swiss watches and simply want a beautiful and high-quality timepiece for everyday wear that they can rely on.

Tissot T1166171104701 bracelet

The watch is presented on a stainless steel three-link bracelet with brushed middle links and polished sides. This creates a nice contrast and balance between sportiness and elegance and prevents the watch from being too sporty or too classy.  The bracelet has a folding clasp with push buttons to keep it in place.

In terms of quality, the bracelet is good, but don’t expect the most solid and robust bracelet in this price range. It has some play and rattle but overall, it is what you can expect for a watch in this price range. The bracelet does, however, go very well with the design of the watch.
