Should I wear my Rolex tight or loose?

A question we receive quite frequently is how you should wear your Rolex. More specifically, should you wear your Rolex tight or loose? We thought we would answer this question once and for all in a short article.

Should you wear your Rolex tight or loose?

The real answer to this question is that it is completely up to you. You should wear your Rolex watch just the way you want. Whether that is loosely or tightly. Some people prefer to wear their watches loosely so they can move around on the wrist slightly, whilst others like them to sit snugly on the wrist. There is really no right or wrong here. However… There are some things you want to consider before you do.

Wearing your Rolex watch loosely causes premature wear

It’s true. If your watch sits loosely on the wrist, the bracelet will get premature wear due to it bending and moving back and forth. The friction and stress on the links will cause the bracelet to get stretch over time. Whilst it won’t have a noticeable effect over a few days, it will have a large effect on the wear of the bracelet over time.

Wearing your Rolex watch too right causes premature wear

At the same time as wearing your bracelet too loosely can cause premature wear, so can wearing it too tightly. Some people like to wear their watches very tight on the wrist so that it almost chokes the wrist. This can also cause premature wear. When the wrist expands, or when you activate the muscles, there will be a pressure against the bracelet to expand, but it has nowhere to go. This will also cause more stress to the links and the pins and screws holding the bracelet together. Ultimately, this will cause premature wear and lead to the bracelet losing its rigidity.

The ”recommended” way of wearing your Rolex watch is to have it loose enough that you can move it slightly on the wrist, but tight enough so that the watch doesn’t spin on the wrist, or end up on the edge. You don’t want the bracelet to be so tight that it squeezes the wrist, but also not so loose that it can rotate on the wrist.

You decide how you want to wear your Rolex

But…at the end of the day, you decide how you want to wear your watch. If you want to have it so loose that it can rotate on the wrist, then, by all means, wear it like that. And if you prefer it to be very tight, then that is fine, too.

Just bear in mind that how you wear your Rolex watch can have an effect on how the bracelet ages.

A solution can be to fit your Rolex watch with a rubber strap. This keeps your bracelet preserved, and also allows you to wear your watch both tight and loosely without having to worry about premature wear and tear to your bracelet. You can see our selection of Everest rubber straps here.
