Rolex Bezel Protectors Guide

In this article, we will focus on a detail about Rolex watches that only the most devoted watch nerds and enthusiasts think about and even value.

In this article, we’ll go o into detail about Rolex bezel protectors and everything you need to know about them.

Rolex bezel protectors

When a Rolex watch is sent from the Rolex factory to official Rolex retailers, they are shipped in plastic coffins. The goal is, of course, to ensure complete safety so that the watch arrives in perfect condition and isn’t damaged during transportation. Rolex has paid a great deal of thought to this and invested heavily in the logistics.

One way that Rolex keeps its watches protected during the transportation is by putting protective factory stickers onto the watches to protect them from any scratches. Furthermore, they put plastic bezel protectors on the bezels of the watches to keep them protected. And lastly, they put the watch in a plastic coffin, which also has a styrofoam holder. All of this is done to ensure maximum protection. In around 2020, Rolex began changing its travel coffins from hard plastic to paper, likely for environmental reasons.

In recent years, Rolex has enforced new policies that demand official Rolex retailers to remove the factory stickers from the watches when selling them. The reason for this is to prevent resellers to sell them as ”brand new”. With this policy, some retailers have also become stricter with the Rolex bezel protector as well.

Most devoted watch nerds and collectors prefer to get everything that comes with the original ”set” when buying a watch. The more of the original accessories, the better. This includes things like the hangtag, outer cardboard sleeve for the box, the original transportation box, and of course the original Rolex bezel protector… And so on..

Some official Rolex retailers will give you the bezel protector when you buy a watch, but others will keep it and say that it is Rolex policy. Since different watches have different bezel types and sizes, Rolex has given the plastic bezel protectors their own reference numbers. Some bezel protector reference numbers are used for multiple watches, but others only for one.

If you don’t have the original bezel protector for your watch and want to get one, either for protection while traveling, or just to complete your Rolex set, it is possible to buy them in different places, for example on Millenary Watches Accessories, eBay, etc.

Below, you can find the Rolex bezel protectors serial numbers, so you can identify which protector you should have for your watch. Note that the same reference may have used different bezel protectors over the course of its production.

  1. What about the tiny black rubber band that locks the plastic protectors?
I need one for the n227.

    1. Hi,
All bezel protectors originally come with the rubber band. Most bezel protectors use the same black rubber band. Sourcing only the rubber band will be difficult so you can look at buying the whole n227 and then just exchanging it.

      Kind regards,

  2. What does a N150 go to? Sorry if I missed it above. Also, what does the N designate? A beginning year? Thx

    1. Hi,
      N150 fits 34mm Date references 115200, 115234, 115210.

N simply means “number” and refers to the part number. This is used to distinguish the different bezel protectors as there are so many.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

    2. For the 116900 I see 61, but I see N161 listed in other places. Would the 126900 be the same as the 116900? Thx so much.

  3. Hi,
Which bezel protector fits a Rolex 16710?
    Thanks

    1. Hi,
The GMT 16710 uses bezel protector with part number 47.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

      1. Your guide says that bezel protector no.47 is for watches beginning 11 so Ceramic GMT-Master.

        Does it also fit 16710?

I was informed elsewhere that I require bezel protector no. 6 in order to correctly fit?

        Thanks

        1. You´re right Patrick , the 47 is for the ceramics GMT´s , and wouldn´t fit the pre-ceramics 5 digits GMT´s , because different sizes , 40mm vs 42mm .

  4. What is the bezel protector number for an Explorer 14270?

    1. Hi,
Based on our research, we are not quite sure that the 14270 ever came with a bezel protector.
Moreover, bear in mind that older bezel protectors were not always numbered.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

    2. Hi, I found a full kit and it has a “19” protector. I was able to get one and it fits perfectly. Thanks, Chuck Insley
