Casio G-Shock B5000D Review & Complete Guide
There are few watches that are as iconic as the Casio G-Shock. It is recognized and appreciated all around the world for its functionality, practicality, and robustness. This watch is built to take a beating and is a true tool watch.
The G-Shock has been in production for decades and has since established a cult following. These watches are built to last, but because of their iconic design, they have also become popular fashion accessories.
Today, there are literally countless G-Shock watches on the market. One of them, which is also the one we are going to focus on in this article, is the G-Shock B5000D.

This is an interesting watch for many different reasons, but what particularly makes it stand out is its stainless steel construction, presented on a stainless steel bracelet. There are few G-shocks that are offered on stainless steel bracelets, but it really allows for a unique and more distinct look. Because of this, it becomes more of a stylish fashion piece rather than primarily a robust tool watch.
This watch may split opinion, because, with an all-steel construction, it may lose a bit of its original toughness, which is what it is known for. But is this really the case? The real answer to that question is ”not really”. The G-Shock has always been meant to be a watch that can handle any condition and resist virtually anything, and this watch still lives up to that. Whilst the steel construction naturally leads to visible wear and scratches, it is still, at its core, very tough.
This timepiece combines everything we have come to love about the G-Shock range and presents it in a stylish, more refined package.
Without further ado, in this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Casio G-Shock B5000D and what it has to offer.
Casio G-Shock B5000D case
First things first, the watch features a case design that will feel very familiar. Casio has presented this design in many other timepieces earlier.
The case has a diameter of 43.2mm, a thickness of 13.2mm, and a lug-to-lug of 49.2mm.
Most people associate G-shocks with their rubber design which prevents scratches from being visible but also to make it more durable and robust. Since this watch is made in stainless steel with both polished and brushed elements, it will show wear and scratches over time of course – just like any other steel watch.
Whilst the watch may be perceived as rather big when looking at its dimensions, it wears surprisingly well. Thanks to its rectangular case shape, it wears comfortably and slim on the wrist. An important part of this is of course its curved lug design which curves down, allowing the watch to sit planted on the wrist.
With that said, it is slimmer and more comfortable than its dimensions may suggest.
The case has a brushed finish and is framed with a ”rectangular” bezel. It also has ”shrouds” that extend on its sides, keeping the pushers protected and giving a sportier and more aggressive look.
This is by no means a dress watch, but rather a perfect sporty everyday watch for those who want something robust and reliable that can handle all of life’s events. On top of the case, it has a mineral glass. It’s not as tough as a sapphire crystal, but it doesn’t shatter the way a sapphire crystal does.
For the price, the case is actually nicely finished for the price and combines brushed and polished elements which give a positive impression in regards to the overall quality and feel of the watch.
G-Shock B5000D dial
The dial on this watch is of course presented in the form of an LCD screen. It offers great legibility which is crucial in this type of watch.
The dial has a backlit display like other G-Shocks. Just outside of the display is a brick-style outer part, and it is actually this that is the solar panel that catches the light and generates energy for the battery.
Information about what the buttons do can be found around the dial so you can quickly see what is what.
B5000D movement
As we have come to learn, the G-shock watches are packed with technology, and this is also the case with the G-Shock B5000D.
The watch is powered by the 3459 caliber, and as said, it is packed with functions. It has Bluetooth connectivity, can display 5 different time zones simultaneously, connect to your phone, features a countdown timer, has 4 different alarms, and much more. All of these functions can be truly useful to have – for some more than others.
The functions of the watch are operated via the four buttons which are placed on the sides of the case – two on each side. And whilst the watch has a lot of different functions which can make it a bit overwhelming at first, it is made in a way that makes it easy and straightforward to operate.
With the top left button, you toggle between the different modes of the watch. The top-right button allows you to turn on the backlight, and the lower-left button will go through the different modes of the watch.
What is even more impressive about this watch is that the Bluetooth function which allows you to connect to the G-Shock app enables you to access a bunch of different settings through your phone such as setting alarms, setting the world time zones, and much more. With this said, performing these actions is made much easier. You connect the watch to your phone using the G-Shock app.
Furthermore, the G-Shock B5000D synchronizes with the Atomic Clock in order to allow the watch to keep perfect timing. Another interesting technological feature of this watch is that it incorporates solar technology. This means that the battery is charged by solar and ambient light so you won’t have to replace the battery.
The time syncing can be made either via the regular function on the watch or via the app.
This watch is also equipped with an alarm. One complaint that some people have had about it, however, is that the volume is very low on the alarm which can make it difficult to hear in some cases.
Bracelet
The watch is presented on a stainless steel bracelet which is integrated into the case. The actual design is not a lot different than the models with rubber straps. The bracelet is integrated into the end link design which extends from the case and then tapers for improved comfort. It has a nice balance between sportiness and elegance, making it perfect for everyday wear. Considering the price, Casio has done a really great job. It gives an impression of quality and also feels solid and robust. Thanks to its spring bar construction, it is also rather easy to adjust its size.
Just as mentioned earlier, the downside is that it will show wear, but this is not really something unique as it is the case on most steel bracelets.
