Casio G-Shock GWM5610 Review & Complete Guide
There are few watches that are as iconic as the Casio G-Shock. This is a model that is popular and appreciated by people all around the world, and for good reasons of course.
The Casio G-Shock watches are known to be durable, robust, technical, and built to last. These are timepieces that will be able to handle virtually any harsh conditions you subject it to without breaking a sweat. These watches are also packed with a lot of different functions that may be useful.
Because of the huge popularity of the G-Shock, Casio has continuously grown the watches in its collection to serve all kinds of different needs and wants. There are extremely technical and complicated G-shocks that are packed with functions, but at the same time, there are also less complicated watches for those who prefer something a little more simple and intuitive.
The Casio GWM5610 is one of the most popular G-Shock watches on the market. It retains the classic G-Shock DNA in terms of style, design, and build quality, and also offers all of the basic functions that you would expect in a G-Shock.
Without further ado, in this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Casio G-Shock GWM5610.
Case
This watch is smaller and less bulky than most other G-Shocks out there which allows it to be more practical and versatile for everyday wear. If you would want, it can quite easily slide under a cuff, and won’t feel like a brick on your wrist. In fact, it will feel quite slim and sit comfortably on the wrist. Perfect for everyday wear.
The case is unsurprisingly made in resin and has a diameter of 46.7mm and a thickness of 12.7mm. The case has a square or rectangular design which gives it a distinct appearance and can instantly be recognized as a G-Shock. The resin case is a great thing as it allows it to be exactly what you expect a G-Shock to be. It increases its resistance against scratches and makes it more shockproof. The general consensus is that this watch wears really well. Its dimensions make it work great on almost all wrist sizes, both small and large.
On each side of the case, it has ”bumpers” to make it more resistant to shocks.
Its square design is truly classic and has been around for decades and has become instantly recognizable in the watch world.
The strap is made in resin too and is seamlessly integrated into the case. This is a great thing as it improves the comfort of this watch and makes it sit comfortably and snugly around the wrist. The strap is actually rather comfortable, and it is also doable and resistant to scratches, mud, water, and more. A perfect match for this type of watch.
The case offers a water resistance of 200m/660 feet which is really great for this type of watch. This means you can go swimming and diving with it and it won’t break a sweat. This is rather impressive considering the fact that it is not even a dive watch.
In terms of build quality and durability, this watch is extremely tough. There is plenty of video proof online where this watch is subject to a lot of different things such as being run over by a truck and yet working perfectly afterward.
Screen
Since this is a digital watch, it is equipped with an LCD screen and no analog time display. Printed on the screen, it has information about what each of the buttons does, as well as further specifications such as the water resistance.
The LCD screen is also surrounded by solar panels. Naturally, these generate energy for the movement when exposed to ambient and solar light, meaning you won’t have to replace their batteries, so this is a great technical feature. The watch has a power reserve of 10 months with a full charge and without being charged by light in the meantime.
For a sporty touch, the screen has a red line around it.
For legibility, it has an EL backlight so you can read the time in any environment. The backlight lights in a green glow.
Functions
The watch is powered by the Casio module 3159. As mentioned, this isn’t the most complicated of the G-Shocks, but it does feature all of the basic functions you would need and expect.
Apart from the basic timekeeping, it has a world time function with 29 time zones, a stopwatch, a timer, 4 alarms, and 12/24 hour formats. Another great thing is that it has an atomic multi-band synchronization which allows it to synchronize with an atomic clock and ensure perfect accuracy at all times. The watch also has a countdown timer and an automatic calendar with Date, Day, and Month of 2099.
Another clever and convenient function is that it has an “Auto EL” function that detects when your wrist moves and thus automatically lights up when you turn it to your face to read the time.

Conclusion
With all of this said, it’s easy to see why the Casio G-Shock GWM5610 is so immensely popular. It has a design that remains mostly unchanged since the 80s and has become a true classic in the watch world.
In addition to this, it is extremely affordable and offers great value for money. Its smaller design makes it perfect for those who want a G-shock as an everyday companion but don’t enjoy wearing too bulky watches that can feel a bit in the way at times.
This watch contains all of the basic G-Shock functions and is built to withstand virtually anything you subject it to, and it should still hold up perfectly. This is why the GWM5610 really should be a part of every watch enthusiast’s collection as it really does serve a practical purpose that not a lot of other watches do.
My GWM5610-1 has actually been run over by semi trucks and passenger cars on a busy highway and now a year later it’s still on my wrist and functions fine, without a scratch on the face. The metal buckle got slightly bent, but wow, this thing is the *ideal* EDC watch. I’ve bought 6 of these now, for gifts, to replace a couple I’ve lost, and to have an extra backup in case I lose the one I’m wearing now. I’ve read they’re updating this model and tweaking some timezone settings and replacing the green nightglow with a white side light… Glad I got the green glow version before it’s too late.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It’s indeed a really awesome watch!
Kind regards,
Millenary Watches
Thanks. I’m looking for a replacement for my Gw-300 that runs fine after 20+ years, but rubber bezel cover fell apart. Only maintenance ever done was to replace capacitor-battery after 15 years (by jeweler).
