Casio G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000 Review & Complete Guide
If you’re looking for a G-Shock on steroids, the Casio G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000 may just be the watch for you. This isn’t only a G-shock on steroids in terms of size and build quality, but most importantly in terms of functions and features. It is an ”extra everything” watch which is a testimony to what Casio is able to do with its most popular model of all time.
What is particularly special about this watch is the fact that it has a so-called multi-Sensor function, which Casio is really proud of. In addition to this, whilst this watch is not a smartwatch, it does have some smart technological functions which are based on the fact that you can connect it to your phone using its built-in Bluetooth.
Maybe most important is that this watch offers everything you would expect from a G-Shock. It retains the G-Shock DNA in all aspects, not to mention having a durable build quality and a robust-and sturdiness that makes it able to withstand virtually any harsh conditions you subject it to.
This is a watch that Casio has placed under its ”Master G collection”. This essentially means that it is a top-tier G-Shock watch, but most importantly, it is made by Casio in Japan. This is a top-tier watch in all aspects. This means build quality, finish, and technicality. Naturally, this also comes at a higher price, but at the same time, it becomes very evident that it offers great value for money when you look at it in detail.
Without further ado, let’s look closer at and review the Casio G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000.
Case
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Casio G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000 is a rather large and bulky watch. It has a diameter of 57.7mm and a length of 60.3mm. The thickness measures 20.2mm. However, with that said, it is still quite light at 142 grams which makes it sit more comfortably on the wrist.
Its relatively large size makes it suitable for men with large wrists, those who enjoy wearing large watches, or if you plan to wear this watch out in the field, for example outside a jacket. But at the same time, whilst it is large, owners have still reported that it is comfortable on the wrist and surprisingly wearable. But if you are a person who prefers smaller watches, this isn’t really one for you, unless you are only planning to use it outdoors and use it as a tool.
The case still carries a lot of the signature G-Shock design language, but at the same time, it has a lot of differences. First off, the resin ”bezel” which is screwed down to the top of the case is aggressively designed with ”extensions” on each side in order to provide maximum protection for the pushbuttons as well as the crown at 3 o’clock. Worth noting is that the crown is actually a scroll wheel and pusher with which you navigate through the different menu settings.
The case is built to ensure that this watch can hold up against any situation you subject it to. It is shock-resistant and anti-magnetic. The bezel sits raised above the screen to prevent damage and scratches.
For the strap, it uses carbon tubes, which are used to secure the straps to the case. The benefit of the carbon tubes is that they are sturdy and reliable for preventing the strap from coming off your wrist.
On the screen, next to each button, you can see printed text. This tells you what each of the buttons does so you can easily and effortlessly operate them accordingly.
Also, another great feature of this watch that most G-Shocks do not have is a sapphire crystal. The water resistance of this watch is 200m/660 feet, meaning it is suitable for both swimming and diving.
Screen
Like most G-Shocks, this watch is equipped with a digital LCD screen rather than an analog display.
The screen has an outer ring on which information about the button functions is printed. There is not much to say about the actual screen, but it is round and not divided into sections like on many other G-Shocks.
Functions & movement
As already mentioned, this watch is packed with tons of features. Where should we even begin?
This watch is of course a quartz watch, and the battery for it can be charged in two ways. Either by using the solar power function, which generates energy for the movement through solar and ambient light. The second method is using a charging cradle. It also has a battery power indicator to help you keep track of how much energy it has left.
Another feature that stands out about this watch is its GPS function. Whilst the GPS function is great, it does naturally require a lot of energy, so depending on how much you use the GPS function, the battery will be drained differently fast. A clever function that this enables is continuous GPS tracking, and waypoint functionality, meaning it can n track and organize waypoints so you can find your way back if you are out on an adventure.
The battery life of this watch according to Casio is 29 months without communications features activated.
The watch features a ”triple sensor” sensor system, known as Casio ABC, meaning it includes an altimeter, barometer, and compass. In addition, it also has a thermometer.
Now, these are all the special functions the Rangeman offers, but of course, it has everything else that we expect in a G-Shock. This means that it has all of the standard features like time, date, and chronograph function, but also things like moon phase data, tide, sunrise, and sunset information.

The Casio G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000 is available to order on Amazon
Where do I start, first off just like the article says, this is a heavy duty (not in weight terms) BEAST of a man’s watch and I absolutely love it. I’m currently the owner of 8 G-Shocks but this one is my very favorite and everyday wear. I was a Bricklayer in the field for 25 years and now a union Rep for 14. I believe the G-Shock was introduced around 1983 or so and I’ve had one since 1986 this particular model for 11 months now going strong and as if it needs it, I’ve also added a tempered glass screen protector and bull bars to the face. It’ll absolutely be too big for some people whether or not big watches are your style or simply your wrist size but I wear it with any outfit and have gotten many comments on it. Worth the high price tag for me and I purchase it again if the need arose.
Thanks so much for sharing your interesting input! It is indeed a beast of a watch, built to handle anything.
Kind regards,
