Casio G-Shock AW-591 Review & Complete Guide
When most people think about the G-Shock, they think of the classic G-Shock with a full resin case, digital screen, and the classic thick, raised resin bezel. But because of the huge popularity of the collection, Casio has consistently released new models and iterations of the G-Shock. The G-Shock AW-591 is one of them, and this is a model that perhaps doesn’t fit into your classic design idea of the G-Shock that is associated with the model.
The AW-591 looks different from most G-Shock watches, but it still stays true to everything you associate with the G-Shock. This means durability, robustness, build quality, and sportiness. In addition to this, the model has a number of other interesting pieces of technology up its sleeve.
This is a seriously tough watch that is made to last, like all G-Shocks, and with its new design, it’s a nice option for those who are looking for something new and different without compromising on the quality.
If you ask us, just because it doesn’t look like the standard concept of how a G-Shock design doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth getting acknowledged, and we feel this is a model that deserves just that.
Without further ado, in this article, we are reviewing the G-Shock AW-591.
Worth knowing before we dig in is that this model is available in a number of different colorways, specifically 7, with different colors, so you can find the one that speaks to you the most.

Case
Unsurprisingly, this is a tough watch that is built to last. It is made shock-resistant, which hardly gets by anyone considering the large ”shock resist” text on the bezel.
The watch is presented with a black resin case, but for once, the bezel is not made in resin, but rather metal. The bezel provides a nice contrast against the resin, and to keep it protected, it has ”bumpers” on parts of the bezel to increase its resistance against shocks. On each side of the case, the watch has ”bumpers” which protrude from the case and keeps it protected.
The watch features a black resin strap that integrates into the case nicely. This allows the watch to sit more snugly on the wrist. It also looks really nice.
The case has a diameter of 46.4 mm, a length of 52mm, and a thickness of 14.9 mm which is a familiar size in the G-Shock range, but it is by no means huge. In fact, many owners have said that they think this watch wears slightly slimmer or at least appears such because of its design – particularly the bezel which is slightly thinner.
In terms of design, this watch actually looks really good and is, thanks to the smaller profile, more suitable for everyday wear compared to many other G-Shock watches. The watch is, however, like most G-Shocks, water-resistant to 200m/660 feet. Don’t let the looks deceive you because you can take this watch swimming and diving without it breaking a sweat.
Dial/screen
The watch is presented with both an analog clock and digital screens. This makes it more interesting and makes it more suitable as an everyday watch compared to a full digital watch. The watch has large hour and minute hands made of metal and with luminescent material applied to them for improved legibility in low-lit conditions. In addition to this, it has applied hour markers on the dial with luminescence which works together with the hands to create great legibility.
In addition to this, the watch also has an auto backlight which lights up the watch and makes it easier to read the time in dark or completely dark environments. The dial is black and has a subtle “waffle” pattern which provides some texture to the dial and makes it slightly more vibrant and interesting.
The quartz movement with a battery offers a battery life of approximately 2 years.
Movement/functions
In terms of functions, this watch has everything you expect from a G-Shock. This means, apart from regular timekeeping, it has a full auto calendar, auto backlight, daylight saving, digital timekeeping, month, day, day of the week, 12-hour and 24-hour time format, stopwatch function, countdown function, 5 daily alarms, home city code, progress beeper, and more.
The 5 daily alarms remind you with a sound signal and are reoccurring every time you have set them. You can also activate an hourly signal which sounds every full hour. The watch is equipped with 5 daily alarms so that you can adapt each alarm depending on your needs. It also has a snooze function, which means that every time you stop the alarm, it will sound again after a few minutes.
The push buttons are positioned on the side of the case and in case you are confused about which button does what, don’t worry. The bezel of the watch has text on it next to each button which tells us what each of the buttons does for easy operation.
The analog clock allows you to read the time with a glance, and the sub-dials and LCD screens provide more detailed information that you may want to access.

Thanks to its slightly neater and less bulky size, a lot of people who find the standard G-Shocks too big will love this as an option.
