The Seiko Prospex SBDC077 Green Sea Special edition is a watch that certainly stands out from the ordinary with its green, emerald-colored dial. At the same time, it stays true to Seiko dive watches with a classic and recognized case and dial design with excellent performance.
This is a special edition timepiece with a design that looks special too. What makes it so popular is that Seiko has taken an iconic and already popular model, and incorporated a stunning green dial in it which makes it stand out and gives it a new and fresh look.

Case
The watch is presented with a stainless steel case with a diameter of 42.6mm, a lug-to-lug of 50mm, and a thickness of 13.8mm. In terms of design, it’s very evident that it is vintage-inspired and seeks inspiration from vintage dive watches.
The case has a distinct design with squared-off lugs which is satin-finished on top. The edges are beveled which enhances its appearance and adds attention to detail to the case. Following the same theme, the sides of the case are polished. At 3 o’clock, it has a relatively large screw-down crown which is not protected by any crown guards. This is yet another vintage-inspired design feature, and whilst crown guards serve. apurpose for dive watches, it looks really nice without them and prevents the case from being too bulky.
A nice feature about the case and the bracelet is that Seiko has treated it with a DiaShield coating. This works as a scratch-protection and resistance to corrosion and reduces scratches and scuffs which most watch owners want to avoid.
The lugs have a width of 20mm, and Seiko has used drilled lugs to make it easier to remove and change straps so you can quickly and easily give it a new look and design.
The water-resistance of this watch is 200m/660 feet, meaning it is suitable for diving and swimming.
As a dive watch should, it is equipped with a unidireictional rotating bezel. The bexel of this watch has knurled edges which helps improve the grip of the bezel. In turn, the bezel has a ceramic insert with silver markers and a luminous pup at 12 o’clock.
The ceramic insert has a blue/greenish hue to it which is discreet but still goes well together with the color of the dial. Because the bezel insert is made of ceramic, it becomes more vibrant and reflects the light beautifully, changing its appearance depending on how the light hits it. The bezel rotates with 120 positions and has very little free play. Overall, it feels robust and qualitative.
Dial
Apart from the watch’s classic design, it’s safe to say that the dial is the highlight of this watch. The watch has a stunning green/emerald fume dial with a sunburst finish. The dial shifts in color from bright emerald green in the center, and transitions to black/dark green towards the edges. Around the outer edge, it has a dark green rehaut on which the seconds markers are printed.
The graded fume dial is really something special that ensures you’ll never get bored of it. But it is also not too bright and bold which means that it works well on many different occasions, and you don’t have to worry about it being ”too much”.
The dial of course has a great emphasis on legibility as a dive watch should. It features large rectangular hour markers with polished metal frames applied with Lumibrite luminous material for a long and strong glow. Seiko has based the dial on the iconic 62MAS which is a nod to a vintage reference that many watch enthusiasts will enjoy.
The hands are of course large too, with the hour hand being short and featuring an arrow tip. The minutes hand is sword-shaped and both hands of course have generous amounts of luminescent material.
Positioned at 3 o’clock, it has a date window with a white painted frame around it.
Movement
Inside the watch, we find the in-house automatic Seiko caliber 6R15. This movement operates with a 21,600 BPH (3 Hertzs) and has hacking and manual-winding capabilities, two functions you usually don’t find in the most affordable automatic dive watches. The movement has 23 jewels and a power reserve of 50 hours thanks to the Spron 510 mainspring.
The movement is a trusted and durable workhorse that has proven to be able to continue to tick for years without any maintenance, so nothing to complain about here.
Bracelet
Moving on to the bracelet, it is of course made of stainless steel and also has a Diashield coating to make it more resistant to scratches.
Many of Seiko’s most affordable dive watches (and most dive watches for that matter) have rattly bracelets that tend to feel a bit cheap, but Seiko has done a great job with the bracelet on the Seiko Prospex SBDC077 Green Sea Special edition, which is also to be expected considering the fact that this is not an affordable watch. The bracelet has a satin-brushed finish with a nice angular finish towards the edges of the links.

We can’t speak about this watch without speaking of the dial, but that is because it is so important for this model.
