Case

The reference MTG stands for Metal-G Twisted and is reworked from the standard G-Shocks. Whilst most of them have a resin case, this model is made in metal and carbon-fiber-reinforced resin case to give it a more luxurious and high-end feel and appearance. At the same time, Casio has managed to still retain the durability and robustness that the G-Shock is known for.

The watch connects the front bezel by using screws. These in turn attach to a solid case construction which causes it to be extremely robust. With that said, this watch has a solid metal case which makes it feel more like a regular watch compared to the standard resin G-Shocks. The metal case construction is extremely well executed. In addition, Casio has used Zaratsu’s proprietary polishing technology and a coating of microscopic diamond particles, thus increasing the case’s scratch-resistant properties.

The watch is presented on a polyurethane strap which is suitable for its purpose. Whilst a metal bracelet would be nice, the polyurethane strap makes it more durable, versatile, and sporty. It is also very comfortable. In addition, this strap was necessary considering the way it is attached to the case. As you can see, the case has extended ”lugs”, which aren’t really lugs, but extensions of the case that work as strap holders. The strap is attached to a plug inside, and inside of this, Casio has used a layer of red polyurethane, a reinforced plastic.

The reason for this is that metal and rubber aren’t a great match, and three screws used to attach the strap are therefore used together with the reinforced plastic to create a more durable and robust strap integration system. If you look closely, you’ll notice that the strap is attached on the side and on the bottom, which is a safety measure done to ensure the strap never falls out and also to ensure it can handle harsh treatment.

All in all, the strap integration system is very interesting but also extremely well-thought-out for ultimate performance.

On top of the case, the watch has a spherical sapphire glass which is an improvement from the standard mineral glass usually found in G-Shocks. The crystal has also received an anti-glare treatment.

The case’s guard structure which connects the bezel, back cover, and band mounts lead to a stronger construction that is even more durable. In addition to this, the new carbon-fiber-reinforced resin lightweight inner case increases the protection for the movement. Whilst this is a sporty watch, its price requires a nice finishing of the case, and Casio has done a great job here as well. The case is polished to a mirror finish on some of the parts and has beautiful slopes/bevels on some of the edges.

The watch has a water resistance of 200m/660 feet, meaning you can go swimming and diving without it breaking a sweat.

The case has the dimensions 55.8 mm × 51.7 mm × 14.4 mm and a weight of 123 grams, and with that said, there’s no denying that this is a large with. But this is exactly what we can expect from a G-Shock.

Dial
