Omega Serial Numbers: A Complete Guide
Serial numbers on watches are often quite tricky to understand. Plus, all watch brands have a different serial number system which further complicates it.
Serial numbers are numbers that are unique to each and every Omega timepiece and can be viewed as the ID of the watch. Through the Omega serial number, you can verify the watch’s authenticity, and you can also verify that the watch is not stolen. Another way that people use their serial numbers is to figure out how old the watch is.
Normally, you look at the certificate to see when the watch was purchased, but most older watches tend to lose their certificates over time for obvious reasons, so the serial number may thus the serial number is the only real way to identify when the watch was made.
In this article, we’re listing Omega Serial numbers and teaching you more about how you can identify them.
How to identify the year of your Omega watch & serial numbers
Omega serial numbers
Where can you find your Omega watch’s serial number? Well, the first and most easy way to do it is to look at the certificate of your watch. All Omega watches come with a certificate, and on the certificate card, you’ll be able to read the serial number of the watch, as well as other interesting information.
The serial number is also engraved on your watch, so if you don’t have the certificate, or if you don’t have access to it, you can simply look at your watch. The serial number is normally located somewhere on the case back on the watch – often laser-etched. Sometimes, the serial number is so small that you will have to look carefully to find it.
If you have an older Omega, it may have the serial number on the inside of the watch. This means that you will have to open the case back to find the watch’s serial number.
The Omega serial number is a seven or eight-digit serial number which is etched into the watch during its production.

Omega using ETA movements
Omega started using ETA movements in some timepieces in the 1980s, and this complicates things when it comes to serial numbers. Here, it is more difficult to know the serial numbers and their exact dates. We’ve already listed them above, but tis will hopefully make it easier to read and distinguish your watch. This is why we present the ETA serial numbers separately.

Hi,
My 2531.80.00 Seamaster has a serial number that begins with 602 and your chart states 598 – 609XXXXX has a manufacture date of 1999. I bought my watch on January 25, 1998 and I still have the box and papers. The COSC certificate states a testing date of June 1997. I don’t know if that’s just the movement that is tested or the assembled watch, but the serial number on the COSC certificate matches that on the case. Considering the date on my receipt, origin of the watch, and the location of the sale (Malaysia), I would think that would still put the manufacture date sometime in 1997.
Photo of COSC certificate: https://bit.ly/3hyaBy3
From where is this serial number data sourced?
Thanks!
Anthony
Hello Anthony,
Yes, that could be correct. The date of the movement production can be earlier than the actual case as these are not necessarily manufactured at the same time. In particular back in the days.

Great website with lots of good information for the watch I’m inheriting from an uncle.
It’s an 18K yellow gold vintage (1964) Omega Constellation and I would like to have the watch serviced. It seems to have been stored in good condition, but it has not been used in several years. Omega official website indicates 2 official service centers here in the east: New York and Miami.
I have not opened the case, but the Omega ‘Certificate of High Precision’ and other documents I have indicates the Serial number is 21281519.
Thank you!
Yes that sounds like a good idea to have it serviced! Make sure to save all accessories and documents to the watch as they are important for collectors.

Hi
I am looking to service my watch but cant understand the Watch no/Serial no dates. I do not want to send it away if there in an anomaly.
I have a Seamaster ref:25318000 Watch , My warranty card, pictogram and chrono cert card all carry the same Watch No. 807 XXXXX and my date of the purchase 6 May 2004 on the warranty card which is correct and the date i bought it.
The ref no on the cards match the number on the watch case and on the Jewelers receipt from the far east that I still have. The watch has never been open and has not missed a beat in 16 years. I have the Box Booklet spare links etc.
My questions are: When I compare this numbers to the charts it shows my watch number on the warranty card to be 78 – 80XXXXXX = 2006., can this be correct? The purchase date makes my watch older than the Watch No by at least a year and a half. Does the movement have a different no?
Thanks George
Hi George,
Sounds like there are no anomalies with your watch.
