Orient Symphony Review & Complete Guide
The Orient Symphony is a highly popular model from Orient. The latest iteration of this version is the Symphony III, which refers to the third generation of the Symphony. Orient consistently makes upgrades and improvements to its models, which leads to a new version. But overall, the design tends to remain mostly the same. Because after all, why change a winning concept?
Orient Symphony III review
The Orient Symphony is an elegant, refined and classy timepiece that combines elegance with versatility. This watch is not sporty enough to be a sports watch, but elegant enough to be called a dress watch. At the same time, it works perfectly as an elegant everyday timepiece that works for everyday wear and most occasions, both formal and casual.
In this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Orient Symphony and what it has to offer. But to get a better understanding of what this model, has to offer, let’s look at Orient’s own words about it.
”So why call it the Symphony III? This third iteration of the classic collection has undergone a few slight design changes, starting with the hands. The signature dauphine hands have been swapped for a spear-tipped set. The chapter ring is now flat against the edge of the case and features a concentric design. Additionally, the date window has more of a rounded frame. While these are all pretty subtle changes, the watch certainly hasn’t lost its luster—it’s still as polished (literally) and elegant as ever, especially with its sunburst dial.
The size of the watch has been upped by a mere .6mm from the original. As mentioned, it’s been upgraded with our caliber F6722, which is automatic, manual-winding, and hacking. In fact, the movement can be observed through a clear exhibition case back, just like the models that came before it.”
The Orient Symphony is available in a number of different versions and designs. It is available with either leather straps or a metal bracelet, and with different dial colors. In addition, it is available both with a gold case, steel case, or a gunmetal finish.
Most people are probably already familiar with the Orient Bambino, one of Orient’s most popular dressy watches. But the Orient Symphony is a watch that has, in a way, fallen into the shade of the Bambino. But with that said, this doesn’t mean the Orient Symphony doesn’t deserve any recognition. Because like most of Orient’s timepieces, this is a watch that is well-built and offers great value for money.
If you are looking for a stylish, classy, and well-built automatic timepiece, this may be a watch for you.
Without further ado, let’s look at what the Orient Symphony has to offer.
Orient Symphony III Case
Starting off, the Orient Symphony has a sleek, slim, and elegant case that goes very well together with the purpose of this watch. The case has a diameter of 41mm and a thickness of 12mm. Its diameter means that it is not tiny, and therefore becomes more versatile. At the same time, its slim profile and shot lugs ensure the watch sits well on the wrist and will slide under a cuff without any issues.
Thanks to the short lugs, the watch will also fit most wrists without it looking huge. The slim and short lugs also go very well with the purpose and concept of this watch.
The case has a thin polished bezel which puts all the focus on the dial. This is a common design feature of elegant watches where the case simply complements the dial. Unsurprisingly, the case has a polished finish on both the top and the sides. This allows for a classy and clean look.
On top of the case, the watch has a flat mineral crystal. Since this is, after all, an affordable watch, it’s no surprise that it is not a sapphire crystal, although this would have been nice. This is also one of the key distinguishing differences between the Bambino and the Symphony, where the Bambino has a domed crystal that gives it a unique and distinct appearance. Also, the flat crystal contributes to its slim profile.
The case has a 22mm lug width and is available either with a stainless steel bracelet or a leather strap. The one you choose depends on your taste and preference. But obviously, the stainless steel bracelet gives it a sporty look and the leather strap option is more suitable if you want something more dressy and classy.
As mentioned earlier, there are three case designs available for this model. These are stainless steel, gunmetal, or gold-finished.
Since this is a dressy watch, it’s not surprising that it only has a water resistance of 50m. In practice, this means that it is resistant to splashes, but should not be submerged underwater.
On the 3 o’clock side of the case, it has a small and discreet crown. The crown is a push-pull.
Orient Symphony III Dial
The dial of the Orient symphony is beautiful and extremely classy. In addition, it is also beautifully finished with great attention to detail that gives the impression that this watch is much more expensive than it actually is.
In addition, the dial of this watch is almost completely symmetrical, making it visually pleasing. Orient has done a great job in designing the dial of this watch and finding a balance between beautiful details and minimalism.
As mentioned, the case for the third version of the Symphony has undergone a few subtle changes. First off, the signature dauphine hands have been swapped for a spear-tipped set. In addition, the chapter ring has been refined so that the chapter ring now sits flat against the edge of the case and has a concentric design. The previous version had beveled dauphine hands.
Positioned at 3 o’clock, the watch has a date window where the frame has been slightly more rounded from the previous versions. Since many people will wear it as an everyday watch, it’s a practical function.
The dial is also kept clean and refined, with minimal text, only containing ”Orient”, ”Automatic”, and ”Water resist”.
Depending on your preference, it is available in a number of different dials, such as black, blue sunburst, or silver. The markers contribute to giving it a very classy and elegant appearance. The markers are applied and made of metal. These have a polished finish with bevels that reflect the light beautifully. Because of the beveled design, they provide depth to the dial and greatly contribute to its elegance.
All in all, there’s really nothing to complain about the dial, and Orient has done a great job with its execution.
Orient Symphony III Movement
An important detail about this watch is that flipping it around will reveal something very important, which is its see-through case back. The case back allows you to see the new movement inside, which is the in-house Orient caliber F6722. This is also one of the most important upgrades and improvements to the third iteration.
This is an automatic movement with a manual winding and hacking seconds function. The see-through case back is a great detail that particularly watch enthusiasts who enjoy mechanical movements will appreciate.
The automatic movement in this watch has a power reserve of 40 hours and an accuracy of +- 15 seconds per day. It operates with a frequency of 21600 BPH. The movement uses 21 jewels.
Not only is the movement great in terms of function, but it is also great in performance. The caliber F6722 has proven to be a robust, reliable workhorse that can continue to tick for years without needing any maintenance or servicing. With that said, this watch offers exceptional value for money if you consider its automatic movement, its price, and other options for competitors in the same price range.
