Already at first glance, it is evident that the Seiko 5 Sports Bottle Cap SRPC67K1 has a distinct and unique design. Its design reminds that of a dive watch, but at the same time, it is a lot different in many ways. Seiko has successfully made a diving-inspired watch but with its own twist.
It is certainly not a watch for everyone, but it has received a lot of praise and appreciation amongst those who enjoy it. In addition, as we have come to expect from Seiko, it is well-built, well-finished, and has an automatic movement that is reliable and long-lasting.
In this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Seiko 5 Sports Bottle Cap SRPC67K1.
Seiko 5 Sports Bottle Cap SRPC67K1 case
The watch features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 45mm. It has a thickness of 13mm and a lug width of 22mm. On paper, 45mm is a lot, but when it comes to this watch, it definitely wears a lot smaller than its dimension may suggest. This has to do with the fact that the lugs are extremely short. In general, the lugs are what tends to make a watch wear big, as it becomes very evident when the lugs stick out from the sides of the wrists.
What you will also notice is that the crown is positioned at 4 o’clock. This gives it a distinct look, but it also has the practical benefit of not digging into the wrist. The crown is screw-down.
In addition to this, the case is PVD coated. This gives it a very sporty look. The PVD coating is also hard which is great for scratch resistance and durability.
Being a diver, it has a uni-directional rotating bezel with notches with improved grip. Painted onto the bezel, we have minute markings and a triangle at 12 o’clock for keeping track of elapsed time. It offers a water resistance of 100m/300m, it does not meet the requirements of 200m of a true diver’s watch, but it is still enough for swimming and showering with.
It’s evident where the ”Bottlecap” nickname comes from, as its round case shape with the bezel notches.
Sitting on top of the case, the watch has a Hardlex crystal. No surprise here, although it would be nice to have a sapphire crystal.
Seiko 5 Sports Bottle Cap SRPC67K1 dial
The watch has a simple, clean, and refined black dial which is just what you would expect in a dive watch. It has large applied hour markers with polished metal frames and applied Lumibrite for legibility in the dark. The dial has a slightly matte finish to it. Around the outer edge of the dial, the seconds and split seconds are printed. At 3 o’clock, we have a day and date window. The day has a black background and the date has a white background. The date window has a thin white printed frame around it.
The watch has elongated diamond-shaped hands with Lumibrite applied to them and a metal frame around it. The seconds hand is painted white. The hands, together with the hour markers, mean the legibility is excellent.
Seiko 5 Sports Bottle Cap SRPC67K1 movement
If you turn the watch around, you’ll notice that this watch is equipped with a see-through screw-down case back.
Beating inside is the in-house Seiko caliber 4R36 automatic movement. The movement is not decorated or finished, but that is not the point of this movement either. Instead, the movement is built to be reliable, durable, and long-lasting. It beats with a frequency of 21600 BPH.
And with that said, it’s still nice to have a see-through case back which allows you to see the movement inside and which works as a reminder of the mechanical piece of craftsmanship beating inside.
This movement features hand-winding and hacking seconds functions and is a workhorse that will continue to tick for years without needing much maintenance.
Seiko 5 Sports Bottle Cap SRPC67K1 strap
The watch is presented on a black NATO strap with grey/off-white stripes. The buckle has also been PVD coated to match the case. You can never go wrong with a NATO strap. It’s comfortable, easy to adjust, and durable. Not much to say about this.
