Seiko SNDC89P2 Chronograph Review & Complete Guide
If you are looking for a stylish, high-quality, accurate, and sporty chronograph, Seiko could be a good candidate.
Seiko is mostly known for making high-quality and durable affordable watches. In fact, there is a huge difference between cheap watches and affordable watches, and Seiko does the latter. This means watches that punch well above their weight and offer great value for money.
The Seiko SNDC89P2 chronograph has a price of about 100 USD, and in this price range, you normally have to compromise with the quality a lot, but there is a reason this watch is so popular.

The Seiko SNDC89P2 is a sporty chronograph priced at around 100 USD. Most watches in this range are just poor quality and have a tendency to break, but Seiko has immense expertise in making high-quality affordable watches, and this also goes for the SNDC89P2.
In this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the SNDC89P2 chronograph to see what this watch has to offer, despite its very moderate price tag.
Seiko SNDC89P2 case
The Seiko SNDC89P2 has a 41mm (some sources state 40mm) stainless steel case with a fixed polished bezel. Sitting on top of the case is a Hardlex crystal. This is not as tough as sapphire crystal but has still proven to be extremely durable and resistant to scratches. Much more than regular mineral glass. Plus, at this price point, sapphire crystal is just too much to ask for.
The case has a thickness of 10mm which is quite slim. The flat case back also helps the watch sit more slimmed on the wrist.
The case has satin-brushed lugs with a sharp angle downwards towards the end. The lugs are slightly curved which allows them to ”hug” the wrist better and thus sit more comfortably. The sides of the case contrast the brushed lugs by being polished. This combination of finishing is great to see even on a watch in this price range. The sharp edges and lines of the case make for a sporty look and appearance
The case has small crown guards which are meant to protect the crown. The crown guards are small so it can be debated how much they actually protect the crown. The crown is knurled and has a yellow line on it. On each side of the crown guards, we find the chronograph pushers. The pushers are smooth and easy to operate.
If you turn the watch around, you’ll find a solid steel case back. Not much to see there. Have n mind that this watch is powered by a quartz movement, so a see-through case back isn’t really necessary as there is not much to see anyways.
The watch offers a water resistance of 100 meters (330 feet) which is suitable for swimming or coming in contact with water, but not diving or submerging for longer periods of time.
Seiko SNDC89P2 dial
Being a chronograph, the watch has chronograph registers. These are positioned at 6, 9, and 12 o’clock. The sub-dials display 12 hours, 1/20th seconds, and 60 seconds.
The dial has a very sporty appearance with a black base contrasted with yellow details.
The dial has a large chapter ring that starts at the edge of the dial and takes up about a fifth of the dial. On the chapter ring, we have the hours printed in white, the minutes printed in yellow, and luminous dots on each five-minute marking on the chapter ring.
Positioned at 3 o’clock on the dial, we have a date window discreetly integrated. The hands are quite simple in design with luminova applied to them, but the chronograph hand is made in yellow to go with the theme of the watch. The chronograph seconds hand ticks in 1-second intervals.
Seiko SNDC89P2 strap
The Seiko SNDC89P2 chronograph is presented on a black 20mm faux leather strap with yellow stitching with a tang buckle. The strap looks good, but there are certainly better-quality straps out there. The good news is that you can easily change the strap to whichever you see would fit well.
Seiko SNDC89P2 movement
The Seiko SNDC89P2 chronograph is equipped with a Japanese quartz movement that displays hours, minutes, seconds, dates, and chronograph functions.
The movement is the caliber 7T92. This caliber uses no jewels and beats at 32,768 Hz (cycles per second).
This movement has proven to be a long-lasting durable workhorse that will work for years (with only battery changes required). It’s definitely a movement that can handle a whole lot of stress, shocks, and beatings.
