What is Rolex Bluesy? Complete Guide
Rolex is an expert at coming up with new words and terms to describe its watches. Some of these names are relevant and used to describe patented and proprietary elements of a watch. But others are just words that Rolex uses to make things sound more unique, special, and proprietary. Rolex is a marketing expert and this is of course exactly what it is.
By coming up with new names and terms, Rolex can distinguish itself from its competitors and make it appear as if Rolex is a lot different and unique, even if that is not always the case.
For example, Rolex’s term Oystersteel is just Rolex’s own designation of 904L steel. It’s not proprietary and some other brands use this steel as well, without giving it a fancy name. The same goes for the Oyster clasp, which many brands just call clasp.
Add to this the fact that collectors and enthusiasts frequently come up with new nicknames and designations for different things relating to Rolex watches and you have a whole dictionary of terms. With this said, it can be difficult to stay up to date and to know what all of these different terms mean.
If you have heard the term “bluesy” in Rolex context, you may be scratching your head wondering what it is and what it means.
Don’t worry, that’s exactly what we are going to sort out in this article.
What is Rolex Bluesy?
The term Rolex bluesy is not an official name or term coined or used by Rolex. Bluesy is a nickname that has been used amongst watch enthusiasts for quite some time now.
The name actually refers to the blue Rolex Submariner gold and steel. The blue Rolex Submariner in gold and steel has been in production for quite some time now (albeit under different references) and the term has existed for a long time as well.
Similar to how the green Submariner is called “Hulk”, The nickname for the two-tone blue Submariner is “bluesy”. It’s that simple!
The blue Submariner in gold and steel was first launched in 1985 and was in production until 1990 (according to Rolex’s own data). The first “bluesy” Rolex is, therefore, reference 16803. Over the years, Rolex has released new and improved versions (as with most models) to improve their performance, design, and overall quality.
The nickname bluesy is not a nickname that refers to a specific model, but instead, it is used to describe any of the references that Rolex has made. The nickname is quite self-explanatory. With its blue dial and blue bezel, it’s hard to see the connection. But in our opinion, it is one of the better nicknames as it isn’t as cliché as some others, like “Starbucks” or “Batman”, or “Kermit”.
