Omega Serial Numbers: A Complete Guide

Serial numbers on watches are often quite tricky to understand. Plus, all watch brands have a different serial number system which further complicates it.

Serial numbers are numbers that are unique to each and every Omega timepiece and can be viewed as the ID of the watch. Through the Omega serial number, you can verify the watch’s authenticity, and you can also verify that the watch is not stolen. Another way that people use their serial numbers is to figure out how old the watch is.

Normally, you look at the certificate to see when the watch was purchased, but most older watches tend to lose their certificates over time for obvious reasons, so the serial number may thus the serial number is the only real way to identify when the watch was made.

In this article, we’re listing Omega Serial numbers and teaching you more about how you can identify them.

How to identify the year of your Omega watch & serial numbers

Omega serial numbers

Where can you find your Omega watch’s serial number? Well, the first and most easy way to do it is to look at the certificate of your watch. All Omega watches come with a certificate, and on the certificate card, you’ll be able to read the serial number of the watch, as well as other interesting information.

The serial number is also engraved on your watch, so if you don’t have the certificate, or if you don’t have access to it, you can simply look at your watch. The serial number is normally located somewhere on the case back on the watch – often laser-etched. Sometimes, the serial number is so small that you will have to look carefully to find it.

If you have an older Omega, it may have the serial number on the inside of the watch. This means that you will have to open the case back to find the watch’s serial number.

The Omega serial number is a seven or eight-digit serial number which is etched into the watch during its production.

Omega using ETA movements

Omega started using ETA movements in some timepieces in the 1980s, and this complicates things when it comes to serial numbers. Here, it is more difficult to know the serial numbers and their exact dates. We’ve already listed them above, but tis will hopefully make it easier to read and distinguish your watch. This is why we present the ETA serial numbers separately.

  1. Hello Great read!. i Have an omega speed master reduce i just got given to me.but i cant find the ref number all i have is whats inside the case.1750032. My friend tell me this is not the ref number. but there is nothing else with this long of a number

    1. Hi,
Yes, that is correct. The mentioned number is the serial number.
Our best tip is to search for “Speedmaster reduced” on Chrono24, look for a photo of one that looks like yours, and then look at the reference number of that watch in the listing.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

  2. hi,,i have an omega seamaster,,i can’t remember if i bought it in 1969 0r 1973,,it only has 4 numbers on the back case and that is 1342,,can you help,,

    thanks joe

    1. Hi Joe,
Thank you for your comment. 1342 sounds like the caliber of the watch (movement). In order to date it, you need the serial number which is usually engraved somewhere on the watch.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

  3. I have a ??? 1963 Omega Seamaster I inherited from my father in the late 70’s. I am trying to date it and find out the specs. I can’t find a match any where. I have pics inside and out. I believe the SN is 20343514. It is 24 Jewel and 18K Solid Gold. I think? inside Back cover says 18K-075. 166001 and 562 is also stamped inside. Can anyone help.
    Thanks,
    Richard I. Ingram

    1. Hi,
It sounds like you have an Omega Seamaster reference 166001. You can find a lot of information if you google this number and also find that Omega made many different variants of this watch over the years.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

  4. Hi everyone! Thanks for the content.

Can a serialnumber (seamaster 83……) date earliear (2007) than the release of the movement (8800 – 2016)? Or is there something dubious goping around in this case….

    Best Regards,
    Aurel

    1. Technically yes, since the parts are manufactured separately and then assembled. However, if there’s a large gap in time between the movement and the case, there’s likely something dubious about it that suggests it may have been changed.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

  5. Hello ,I have a Omega Sea Master. The red plastic card isn’t filled in on the date of purchase/ manufacture. The card reference no is 90073697. Calibre 1538 . There is also a no on the second red card 22218000.
The watch is a Quartz movement.

    Hope you can help.
    Regards
    Alan

    1. Hi,
22218000 is the model number which is the Seamaster Quartz.

The number 90073697 would be the serial number. Since this is a newer model (Relatively speaking), it uses a random serial number. As such, it is not possible to date the watch using the serial number.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

  6. Hello! I have bought a Speedster master triple date with the serial number 85,xxx,xxx ref 3220.50.00 is it from 2009? thanks!

    1. Hi,
It’s not possible to date Omega watches with the use of the serial number as Omega uses a random serial number. Only Omega has access to its internal records so you could order an extract from the archives if you want to find out the exact time of manufacture.
However, it was manufactured from around 2007 to 2013 the period is certainly correct.

  7. Hello, what about Omegas from 1994. I would like to buy for myself for my 30bd. But I can’t see any ref or serials for this year. What does that mean?

    1. Hi,
Many older Omega watches have the serial number engraved only on the movement or on the case back (either on the back or on the inside).
Hope this helps! And happy birthday in advance! A great watch to commemorate this event!

      Kind regards,
