Tissot Serial Number Complete Guide

Tissot Serial Number Complete Guide

Tissot is a Swiss watch company with a long and rich history. It is not known for making the most luxurious watches, but the brand is respected, reputable, and known all around the world.

Tissot was founded in 1853 in Le Locle, Switzerland, making it one of the oldest Swiss watch manufacturers in the world. Most watch brands engrave their watches and give them unique serial numbers. Tissot is one such brand that uses serial numbers for its watches, but over the years, the company has changed its serial number formats.

The good news is that if you have an older, vintage Tissot watch, it will have a serial number, which makes it possible for you to date your Tissot watch.

By looking at the serial number, and taking help from this article, you will be able to estimate the time when your watch was originally manufactured. The good news is that dating your Tissot watch with the serial number is very easy.

Tissot serial numbers

In 1977, Tissot stopped with individual numbers. This meant leaving out the last three digits in the serial number. Further on, in 1984, Tissot stopped with this serial number format too.

As Tissot has made watches for so long, its serial formats and rules vary. The early Tissot watches have the serial number engraved on the edge of the plate, underneath the dial. Later on, Tissot started engraving the serial number on the plates or on a bridge.

For modern Tissot watches, some models have serial numbers and some don’t.

On other Tissot watches, you will see the serial number engraved on actual movement or on the inside or outside of the case back.

  1. I have always loved Tissot since I first played eyes on the old “Natural” wooden face and case look of the 80’s / 90’s.
I have recently bought 4 (pre-owned) Tissot watches in the past month to add to my collection.
I am however having trouble identifying one in particular (a small rectangular ladies watch (lines not numbers )
On the backplate (outside) are the usual ‘Tissot 1853, Water resistant 30m, Sapphire Crystal, Stainless Steel’
Beneath this are the numbers and letterset out as they are here.
    L614
    QKR – BC
    23292
It came with the usual Tissot paraphernalia.
I have not looked inside the case as I would not want to damage the case or movement inside (looks as if it has been worn as an everyday watch – scatches on the plate, case and glass))
    Any advice….. Please….

    1. Hi,
It sounds like the model number of this watch is L614
If you search on google for this number, you’ll be able to find similar ones and can find more information that way.

      Hope this helps!

      Kind regards,

  2. Did Tissot ever make watches for the British Government during and after WW2, and to show that put the Broad arrow mark on the dial face and the back of the watch?

    1. Hi,
The broad arrow mark is a symbol that was used for military-issued watches. Tissot did make watches for several militaries including the British.

  5. Hello my Tissot Antimagnetique had two numbers – one on the mechanism I see 2234737 and on back of its cover I see 6711-1 can you help? Best regards Rafal from Poland

  6. Hello I have Tissot Antimagnetique with No on its mechanism 2234737 and inside on its mechanism cover 6711-1. As far as I understand your www tutorial it is from 1949. But why two numbers are on it? What does it mean? What this No 6711-1 means? Thanks for your info in advance

    1. Hi,
It’s difficult to say with further details but 2234737 sounds like the movement number/serial number and 6711-1 is either the case number or the part number. It sounds like the reference number (model number).

      Kind regards,

  7. Hi.

My father recently bought a PRX Powermatic 80. On the back in between the ’10bar’ and ‘stainless steel’ writings is the code: N9Y 9NM 6MK. Is this a serial number? The code is different from the one shown in one of the pictures of the caseback in the Tissot website, so I assumed it was a serial number but I’m not completely sure.

    Thank you.

    1. Hi,
It’s difficult to say without any further details. It could be the serial number but you should also check the movement and see if you can find a movement number, which is often the serial number for older watches.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches
